Sorry if this is a repeat but I would like some advice, my speedo won’t go past 40mph, my indicators work but do not auto turn off, I have removed the speedo sensor and placed a soldering iron close to the sensor with the ignition on but get no reading at all on the speedo, I have cleaned the connector at the end of the sensor under the side panel but still no luck, not sure what is the next step but any help welcome.

Auto turn off needs the speedo doing its thing, if its off then no auto turn off.

If my speedo is registering up to 40mph would that mean the sensor is working and it is something further upstream or could it still be the sensor,

It could also mean the sensor needs cleaning or the plug connector needs cleaning.....its near back of tank under right hand side panel, you can trace the cable up from the sensor.

Hi, thank you for your help, I removed the sensor and cleaned it, and followed the sensor wire up to the connector under the side panel and cleaned that but then got stuck on next step,
If the sensor was faulty could I still get a speedo reading up to 40 mph or if it is the sensor would I get nothing at the speedo. Is there any more hidden connections before I dive into the speedo itself.

The plastic label on the speedo can wrinkle and lift up to where it stops the motion of the pointer.  This can be the result of long term parking outdoors in a sunny location.

If you unplug the wire from the flasher unit to the instrument cluster, the speedo might then work normally, but you would then lose the auto cancel feature. For some unknown reason I always turn it off manually, but only on a bike. Or cover the flasher units pin with a piece of paper to prevent the signal, or the instrument cluster pin. Maybe something wrong with that wire, or flasher unit. If you're reading 40mph maybe it takes twice as long as normal to auto cancel. The speedo sensor must be working (but maybe not correctly) or the speedo would read 0 kmh.

I had a problem like yours (but I never thought to take notice of the auto cancel feature) which was fixed by cleaning the contacts for the three pins inside the cluster and giving the pins a slight twist, for a tighter contact. You will see the ones I mean if you open the cluster. In my case the speedo would sometimes correctly read 60 mph,  and sometimes drop to 0 mph

Thank you, I will try that tomorrow, I am new to bike repairs so this is a new learning curve, is the flasher unit located under the tank ?

Yep, it's green (usually) and rectangular, at the back of the relay box. You're looking for the blue/green wire,  pin 1.
