I swear I'm having the worst sort of luck.  Anyone have their horn bracket break like this?

I might have the fairing off this winter for bodywork/painting, but barring that, is there an easy fix without welding this back on (not really possible since I don't weld, lol)?

Yes. Seen two of the pressed-steel spiders fracture like that.

Could you not make a bracket that clamps around the area where it has broken off?

A piece of alloy/steel with a vice and bench drill would do that for you.  Bash, bend, drill then job done.  Rattle can to finish.

Both of my horn brackets on the red RS broke over time. I found a cleaner fairing mount bracket on eBay, took it home with me on a visit, and now I have two solid horn brackets and a clean fairing mount. Next time back I'll get a welder to cob them back on again and then repaint/powdercoat the old fairing stay. The bike's an '87, old enough to smoke, old enough for a few spots of rust and the occasional cracking of formerly solid pieces. Just adding backwards to note it was built in October of 1986. 34 years and counting next month. Starts, revs and runs as befitting the solid, overbuilt lump she is. Viva la K bike!
