On another thread I asked about speccing up new shocks for my leading links. Dai suggested I talk to Adge (Adrian Robberts) at Hedingham Sidecars in Dorset.

Adge was very helpful and knowlegable on all things sidecar and mentioned that in addition to Hedingham builds he was also quite busy fixing and putting together other make outfits. So if you need any help setting up etc in the South West, he doesn’t just work on Hedingham kit.

Adge also referred my particular issue to Falcon Shocks who were the original suppliers of shocks to Hedingham in the early days. I spoke at length to Robin at Falcon (also in Dorset) who has given me a list of metrics he requires in order to spec up new shocks. The kit looks good quality (Falcon are serious in the competion world) so I’ll update as we progress.

Bloody hell - I haven't spoken to Robin in years! If you mentioned me I'm willing to bet he probably said something insulting I persuaded Robin to fit a modified pair of trials shocks to my Moto Guzzi V1000G5 about thirty years ago and that started his move into the road world. Adge's Moto Guzzi 850-T3 California was the next road bike he did. Adge still has the Cali; we've sort-of agreed that I should restore it because it's in a bit of sorry state after all these years.

Just returned from a few days in Dorset. On Monday, visited Robin at Falcon Shocks in Wareham to pick up the leading link shocks he’d built for me. I had posted one of my original Hagon shocks and he’d gone back thru his old records of what he used to supply Hedingham. Between that and a review of all the axle weights I’d sent him. He built me of pair of aluminium, re-buildable shocks that are just perfect. While I was there I explained how the chair could be a bit dominant on poor road surfaces and he built up a chair shock with more travel and damping and less spring resistance. The result is a much more compliant ride (and the added bonus that I hadn’t realised outfits weren’t supposed to clatter and bang as you went along).
The other added bonus was that I had only gone to collect the shocks, but Robin, with interference from me, fitted all three at no charge!
Top man and hugely knowledgeable if you want something made to order at no greater cost than the big boys charge for off the peg.

Tuesday I went 30 miles up the road to say hello to Adge at Hedingham sidecars. We’d spoken a few times on the phone so I thought a courtesy call was in order (as it was he who directed me to Falcon). When I got there I mentioned that the new chair shock had raised the ride height and introduced an uncomfortable amount of lean out on the bike. Although he was busy he insisted that he straighten it up before I did the 200 miles home. Another top man.

Wednesday sat in a field full of sheep shit all day trying to shelter from storm Ellen. Not my most productive day of the week.

Well, I don't know if that's the universal truth sought by Chris' Himalayan mystics. But they most assuredly do doo in Dorset.
