YES! it is just like my seat... Please, please get it and if you do please get the name of the people who made it.

http://lh3.ggpht.com/_coHZtf5E4sc/SerLBmySU7I/AAAAAAAAAB8/ZNMac5SsdG4/DSC00196.JPG
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_coHZtf5E4sc/SerLBpat6pI/AAAAAAAAACE/0kPX3mWFVxY/DSC00197.JPG

It is not a Corbin or the German design (forgot the name, but it may have bee Wolf )

BTW there are a few cons with this seat:
a. all fibreglass
b. must remove it to remove the tank, or get access to anything under it.

Pros:
large compartment and easy access to the rear light globe.

Good luck.

Ned, I was looking at it this morning and saw the name Vance Hines on it.
I did a bit of research and found that Vance Hines is now selling accessories for Harley's and Japanese bikes. Maybe in the past they sold accessories for the K100. Just send them an Email and ask them. (http://www.vanceandhines.com/)

Yes, that is correct, thank you. I emailed him and he confirmed that it was not his design.
You may be surprised that he works and lives in West Indies ... Smile smart man. I wonder if he rides a K bike. Here is an exerpt from his website:

Wulf Gerstenmaier, is a Caribbean Artist, who resides in Trinidad & Tobago.
Wulf has worked as an Artist in the Caribbean since 1996. In 2000 he opened his studio and art school in Trinidad & Tobago.

Unfortunately, the mystery continues. This is the reply from Vance & Hines :
Ned,
Unfortunately, I cannot help you on this one.
We never made seats. That is one of our Vance & Hines race exhaust stickers placed on his solo cowl.

Many apologies,

Thanks, Ned, the bike is probably the same one. the bike was standard bmw colour and the previous guy who owned it mentioned he had posted about it, so in all probability its the same bike. pre rebuild
he got the bike from a chap who had stored it for years.
and all the paint had faded badly when he got it.
you dont happen to have a link to that do you i could confirm or deny if its the same bike then.

THANK YOU Bert! Finally I have some idea of the the origin of my seat. I always thought that the seat was made by a professional outfit and that it was almost BMW approved but no one could tell me who the manufacturer was. I will now get in contact with MOTOCO and see if they can help with the history.

Thanks again, i was always confident that the mystery would be solved... well almost. Smile

Hi Guys,

try Edgar Marquez at Flatracer. Maybe www.flatracer.com. ?? He's based in Portugal and I know he makes some superior quality GRP stuff for Beemers.

If anyone has an original - I have the ear of a first class GRP man [ and upholsterer ].

There is a surplus dot at the end of the link. click me

The first time the question was raised I actually went through all the pics and never noticed the seat.
I was looking for something else the other day (I don't even remember what it was) and right away the first click it sprung into my face just by complete accident. Very Happy
No clue, why I didn't notice the first time...

Glad to know what seat that is now. That was really bugging me...

Well gentle people, the mystery has been solved. I've emailed the people in Japan and got the reply from Mr Takatoyo MOTOHASHI from Motoco Co. Ltd.

here it is:

Dear Ned,

I saw the picture.
This is our original single-seat for K100.
But, the cushion is not original.
Maybe, the some user modified it by himself.

We made it about 20 years ago and have been sold it until today.
We still sell it in Japan. (regretfully, we do not export it)

http://www.motoco.co.jp/
http://www.motoco.co.jp/MOTOCO%20ORIGINAL/seat.htm

Best regards,

Takatoyo MOTOHASHI
MOTOCO CO.LTD.

I like to thank them for this because the circle is now complete and the history of all bits on my bike are now known.

My only concern about this seat is that in order to keep it looking good, it has to be a low seat. I am 6ft tall, and you can imagine how comfortable it would be for me..... NOT! A low seat and RT bars + risers would kill the look!

For all the people wanting to make a mold of an existing product:
30 years ago, I made a mold from an original fairing with plaster bandages. This is what the doctors are using to make a cast when you break a bone.
This is cheap, easy to work with. With this solution, you will never damage the original. If you use fiberglass, you always take the chance to have the mold sticking to the original piece.
When the mold is dry, you just have to coat it with wax and you are ready to produce a new piece.

...

I am a bit over 6' and the seat on my RS is just fine. However, you may have to play with the settings to get it right. Now the only problem that I have with the seat is the comfort level, ie the numb bum thing. To overcome the hard flat seat with minimal padding, I've used a sponge sandwiched between two layers of sheep skin. That works for me. It also rises my seat position by a few cm.

Hi Frog,
with all due respect for your former medical skills, GRP has moved on a tad in that time! Laughing

My business associate has been professionally making GRP products for skightly longer than your bandage attempts [ 40 years ].

In that period we have successfully "splashed" [ pro name for ripped off ] various exotic cars [ real ones ] without causing any damage to the original finish. One such was the Bugatti Type 49 owned by Sir ........ ......... which had just been stripped. refurbished and primered ready for paint. We only had 48 hours to take the mould without causing any damage to the [then ] £2M car.

I'm retired now, but here's a couple of examples of my previous trade - my business colleague is still in business.

The making of the product is not a problem - building in adjustment for different shaped folks - also no problem.

Ended up with Jaguar XJ12 running gear - boy was it fast ! Twisted Evil

Also here is the Mongoose [ second from left] Track '27T outside my old showrooms. I designed and sold this model for many years - anything from 4 banger Ford to Big Block Chevy power. Cool

So in a nutshell - reproducing [ even altering ] the seat in question is not a problem - like everything else, it depends if there is a market. Wink

Ajays,

it's a throwback to my yoouff. The old Hot Rodding days.

It was a genre in the States [ where else ! ] based on the circle track racing models. I first made one in 1974 [ Small Block Ford 5 ltr ] and had some fun with that. Then around 1980 [?] I made a commercial version that we sold as "The Mongoose".
It was very cheap to build and spawned dozens of "splashes " - ie other companies ripped it off! Thta's the nature of the GRP industry. I like to think ours had superior chassis and running gear - if NOT I wasted my time getting that engineering degree !

The other style was the Drag Race version - as my Pink Competition Altered. ALL based on the original Henry Ford 1927 Model T.

Yes, nice place to be this one - unlike some...........................................
