My K75S in New Zealand was bought over to Australia last month.
First of all I needed a Personal Import Authority from Gov in Canberra. Few hurdles here as the bikes Vin number was only 11 digits long and in Aust you need 16 digits. A few weeks went by and I was issued with a new VIN number. I had to fill out an Asbestos Declaration form to say the bike had no Asbestos then I had to declare that I was not sell the bike for two years once t was in Australia and also declare that I wasn't going to import another vehicle of any type for the next 5 years. Wow . . . put me through the grill here.
Went to get a Road Worthy ( mobile guy ) showed him the import papers, he then viewed the bike to inform me that I needed a Australian Compliance Plate. Went to Main Roads who couldn't really help me at the time.
MartinW looked up on line RAWS. http://raws.infrastructure.gov.au/ They had a list of Companies that will give your bike a compliance check, order a compliance plate from Victoria to be stuck onto the frame of the bike. The company that I used was NISMO in Virginia. This took about 5 business days before they called me to say the plate had arrived from Victoria come and get it. Attached to the bike. Another hurdle completed.
MartinW organised a workshop day. Martin and 4 others (Gary, Mick, Dan and Paul) came around to help sort a couple minor teething problems out in regards to relays, and lights etc.
Organised the Road Worthy guy to come back. In my opinion, he wasn't all that thorough and had a lot of stories about his biking days - wrote out the paperwork. That hurdle was completed
I then went to Main Roads gave them all the relevant paperwork, registration was completed, registration plate was issued and now on the bike.
I'm now on the road. Yah.
( Would like to say a big thanks to MartinW for his help on this one )
