Hi

Just wondering if anybody on here lives within shouting distance of Carryduff in the north of ireland?

My bike is making a noise and i'm looking for someone who might have a listen and give me an idea what it is?

Obviously they'd have to listen at a safe distance with all that's going on.

LOL!

I'll try recording it. Only seems to do it under power above 4000 revs

I seem to have missed what bike you have.  Model, year, miles, that sort of stuff.  Can we assume it's a BMW?

Once the crap's finished hitting the fan, I'm only twenty miles south of you near Newcastle.

Safe distance and Norn Iron sounds promising....but you are in good hands with Dai.

How this listening works......

First you take a Black Bush.......

Now another new member lining up for puddings.....

First chance we all meet up maybe September this year.

Is the bike still the 96 K1100LT? Exhaust issue like a rattle? Stainless exhausts on them crack, also look at the exhaust flanges and be sure all the studs/nuts are there.

Have you scoped out the exhaust particularly around the 4 into 1 area for cracked welds, etc... K1100 prone to such

Hi all

Bike is still k1100lt. I think the bloke I bought it off was called Chris.

This noise doesn't sound quite like the former exhaust noise. Sounds pistonier. I think.

Its a nice day so I'll take it out for a run and see.

Feel a bit silly about this now but it might have been bad fuel! Got a refil at Tesco self service and went up the hill hall road and by the time I was coming back the bike was flying! It had seemed down on power too I forgot to mention that. Was like it was turbo charged by the time I got back to carryduff!

I'll go again tomorrow weather permitting and see how it is. Never had bad fuel before so I've no idea what it can do but the refill def transformed the performance and I don't think I could hear the noise.

To be honest I thought bad fuel was a myth. Heard loads of folk saying it did this or it did that but been riding thirty years and that's the first time I've had it. Assuming that's def what it was.

If the bike had been standing for a while then yes, shitty fuel is a possibility because all the volatiles could have evaporated off.

Check out the exhaust clamping rings....if the stud nuts come loose these can be loose and sound like pinking and also blow the copper gaskets. It does not sound like a blown exhaust. Been there.

Also check here the headers go into the collector, they crack.

Last thought is alternator monkey nuts BUT on ABS 2 like yours you need ABS unit out to get the alternator out so go for the easy bits first!!

Greetings from OZ. If the headers aren't cracked, you need to fit a large hose clip around the four pipes. It changes the frequency of resonance and greatly reduces the chances of them cracking.
