Hi,
I have standard 4 spoke wheels and the rear has the (unused) splined inner hub (Dia. 50mm, ID 45mm). Was this wheel also used on other models or is there a chance I have a non-std FD that has a 25mm un-splined ‘stub’?

Cool. I must have had that wheel off a half dozen times and hadn’t previously registered the splines. Must try harder.

The Y-spoke 2.5x17 was only used on K75 and K100s.

Is this what you mean by splined?

It is Mr D, I suppose ribbed would be a better term. I was just curious about the seeming redundancy really.

Some R bikes of the era also had Y-spoked wheels. The front wheels were the same but not the rear.  I don't know if the R bikes ever had a disc brake Y-spoke rear wheel.

The front brake calipers are the same too, but handed because they swapped from in front of the forks to behind.

FYI: Airheads with Monolever swingarms use only a drum brake at the rear. The last disc brake rear Airheads were some of the dual shock S, RS & RT models.

The K75 drum brake model rear wheel doesn't fit the Monolever Airheads due to an extreme offset. I attempted to install one on a single shock Airhead bike I was putting together back in '08. No go.

As for the 'splines' of Y spoke wheels, sadly they appear to have real job in life.

Go on I’ll bite. What is the ‘real’ job they perform?

There are some subtle differences between the Y wheels on the R & K bikes.  I have a 95 R100RT and a 1986 K100Rt. A friend of mine tired to fit a front brake disk off of a K100 onto a R100 of the same vintage as mine.  It mounted up but it wouldn't fit the rotor.  You would have had to space the rotor to get it to fit.

The R bikes took a 90 tire and the K bikes took a 100 tire on the front, so maybe that had something to do with it.  Also not sure if the forks where the same diameter.

If I ever decide to move the sidecar from my R bike to my K bike, I was going to check if I could just swap the whole front ends as my R sidecar bike has a leading link front end on it.  Someday maybe I'll take some measurements.

The front Y wheels on the Ks and Rs are the same part - 36311451897.

But the brake rotors are different. For example, rotor 34111457386 was only used on Ks.

I believe the calipers and the brake disk's are different between the two bikes, as a front disk off a K wouldn't fit on the fellows R100RT ( late model ). So If I was doing a front end swap between an R & K I'd have to swap everything brake related.

Calipers are the same too - 34112310309 & 34112310310.

The rotors are probably different because the R forks had them spaced out from the wheel differently.
