Premier Auto Trade (PAT) CTS-052 Coolant Temperature Sensor $50 through local car parts store.
Additional details:
I gave the BMW part number to the local auto trade outlet, they found the bosch number and then located this replacement for it.
There are Temp Sensors via Aliexpress from China for, basically $23 delivered (though Martin discourages this as unsuitable)...maybe taking 1 week minimum. The next best was the abovementioned one for $50 and took 24 hours. Motobins UK have sensors for 29 pounds plus delivery...about 1 week. And of course I couldn't resist phoning the local BMW supplier "...none in Australia, minimum 2 weeks, $243..."
As a footnote to this, I noticed that PAT Temp Coolant Sensors are available through ebay (
http://www.ebaystores.com.au/DDI-Auto) at approx $24. However, I was unable to find this exact code and will contact them. If any joy,, I will pass it on.
Installed sensor this afternoon. Did it fix the problem? No; though I noticed choke wasn't working. But arguably it was running better. Will detail this in another link.
One step forward one back...
