Hey All,

Excited to be part of the k100 community.

Just picked up my first K100. Its a 1984 black naked model that was registered and running about 2 years ago.

Looking forward to getting her back in action.

Matt

WelKome from someone further north again. I had my basic (naked) for over 19 years and loved it.

WelKome!

If it ran two years ago all it should need is some fresh gas and a new battery. (And maybe tires.)

Changed the gas, checked the oil and got a new battery.

Starter sounds like its spinning but is not engaged at all.

Will pull it out and look to clean it as per the forum post.

Starter engages by means of a sprag clutch, which is separate to the starter motor. Oils containing Moly can stop the sprag from locking up or the sprag can get gummed up. Running a high detergent oil for a thousand or so K's can sometimes free up the sprag. There are also posts on how to clean the sprag mechanism. Do a search " BMW K100 starter sprag cleaning" this will clue you up. Early K100's were more prone to sprag problems.
Regards Martin.
