I have to be in Slater, Colorado May 10th and think I would like to head up into Idaho. Not sure if it may be to early in the year for mountain passes to be open but think I want to spend a week or so checking out what I can. I may even head into Washington or Oregon. I have never been out that way on a bike so anyone that would like to share suggestions of good roads and places to see I would appreciate it. Also anyone that would like to meet up in the area I've enjoyed meeting some of the folks from the forum and would like to meet more of you.

It's not too early at all to enjoy the beauty of Idaho.  Mind you, there's a lot of nice scenery between Colorado and Idaho too!
One of our primer roads runs between Missoula, Montana and Lewiston, Idaho at the state's western border.  Actually, highway 12 runs to Lolo, Montana (just south of Missoula) and traces a river that makes for a really great ride.  That would be an especially attractive choice if you wish to go into Washington and/or Oregon.  Idaho has plenty to see, but highway 12 is a particularly nice bit of pavement.

+1 on US12.  Rode it last Fall from Missoula to Yakima.  Excellent pavement, LOTS of curves, great scenery, and not much traffic.

Beartooth Pass (which may or may not be open by then)

Chief Joseph Scenic Byway

Lolo Pass(12) and then head south on Rattlesnake Grade (Asotin, WA to Enterprise, OR)

Stanley, Idaho

Glacier National Park

Be damned careful riding Montana in the evening.  There's a zillion deer in MT.

Hey Caveman sounds like that will be an awesome ride whichever route you end up taking.  We'll have to meet up at some point after you get back so I can get the ride report first hand.  Have a safe and good ride!

Thanks for the input. I will see if I can get trough some of the suggested routes thinking that afternoon will be the best time to get through the passes.
@duck, I do my best to be settled in for the night by 4 or 5 PM but will be looking for deer in the morning the most.
@ woodie, For sure, maybe we will make it to the klassic k in NC this year (September I think) or get together for the wrecked beef .75 talked about.

Yeah, hopefully the Klassik K won't get rained out (obliterated by a hurricane) like last year

The deer aren't bad in the morning there but from dusk into darkness they're EVERYWHERE.  I get scared driving a car there at night.

When I was riding up to Glacier Nat Park in 2010 I came around a sharp curve in the road and there right in the middle of the road were 3 deer . It was 1 PM  ! But,even worse than the deer was the Antelope in Eastern Montana on rt 212 . I came to the town of Brodus and there was no where to stay ,not even a site at the local campground. It was sun set and 110 miles to the next town. I filled the tank and went as fast as I could push the bike ,probably 90+ mph. On the side of the road in this wilderness of grass land were these small herds of antelope . I'd  encounter one of these herds every 5 or 6 miles . I was convinced I was going to die that evening ! I got to 30 miles before the next town in daylight then the darkness  came. Slowed down to around 40 mph and was constantly looking for them ,just waiting and almost certain one would take me down at any minute. Never happened and I made it obviously . The wildlife is a real concern out west 24 / 7
