The other week when I replaced my throttle cable I had to slide my tank back. Last week I checked my mixture with the starter button and it was running rich. I pretty well knew from previous experience that the return line had kinked slightly on replacing the tank. I removed the tank and sure enough the Unicoil that I had fitted to stop it collapsing had slid down. I have a barbed connector in line that allows me to just replace the kinked section. When refitting the tank it is easy to displace the Uncoil or crimp the line. I decided to find a easier way to fit the tank and avoid the crimping problem. I ended up running the line under the steering head bracing and then looping it back inside the fairing. To stop the Unicoil from sliding down I fitted another hose clip under the Unicoil. I nearly bit the bullet and bought a OEM one. I rang M&W to check the price and availability $63.00 AU and four weeks from the Fatherland. I think the problem is now been solved permanently with the changes so I'll not be going the M&W route. I had a look at Motorworks and Motobins, Motorworks about twice the price of Motobins. Time will tell but if I have to I will go the Motobins route.
Regards Martin.

What's the O/D of your fuel line Martin? Mine's 15mm O/D; I extended my return line by about four inches rather than the recommended two so that it had a more gentle return loop on it and I've not had a kink problem (yet). The 15mm line is quite stiff, which is where I think I might be winning out.

Dai I didn't have a problem running non OEM return line for going on 20 years. About 12 months ago the problem started with me running the Brick in 35C+ temperatures in very slow moving traffic. The line started to crimp over due to the heat. I changed the line but as soon as the temperature got up and I encountered slow moving traffic it did it again. So as a temporary fix I rerouted the line through the steering head and looped it around.

Once I got the Unicoil  I went back to the normal route. Yesterday when I was fixing  the crimped line I did look at the brand of the hose and it is unbranded and different to what I had been using previously. I am going to try another supplier and get some Gates or Codan brand hose which is a larger diameter than the Gates.

I had a play with the three types that I have in stock, Codan which is just under 15mm is very flexible and doesn't crimp easily Gates submersible which is slightly stiffer and doesn't crimp easily. The unbranded hose which I got from Supercheap is about the same diameter as the Gates but crimps more easily and is the hose that I was having problems with. Supercheap used to have Gates but I didn't check the brand on my last purchase.
Regards Martin.

Fuel line is 8mm internal diameter and 13mm outside diameter....

Put a spring on the outside before installing it to stop it crimping over.

I'm probably misunderstanding the problem, but as long as you have a barbed connector installed in the return line, why not make it a 90 degree elbow and put it where the kink problem is?

Submersible fuel line is unlikely to be protected against UV. I wouldn't use it unless its approved for both applications.

Mine has the BMW line and its marked 8/13 for the inner and outer diameters

Olaf I was putting the Unicoil (spring) on before installing the hose . However when installing the K75s tank it is a bit of a pain as it s a tight fit due to having rubber channel on the fairing edges, and you can't see what's going on unless you remove the left hand fairing. Fitting the extra hose clip now keeps the Unicoil in place. And I was just using the Gates submersible line as a comparison to see how it would take a bend. If you try and buy the Gates submersible line locally it's $100.00 AU per metre way too expensive to use externally.

Gryph the straight barb connector is down the line  about 4-5" so I can replace the 4-5" if it crimps over quickly and easily. I did it this way summer last year when I first encountered the problem, it saves changing the complete hose. I tried fitting a 90 degree barb connector with the shortest hose possible onto the tank inlet stub but it kept on fouling on the fairing bracket and wouldn't allow the tank to fit properly.

Dai  when it stops raining I'm going on a hunt for a better quality hose, either Codan, Gates or Goodrich. Supercheap Auto no longer has the good branded hose. We don't have a lot of choice Supercheap, Repco, Autobarn and Burson's and a lot of their parts are the same. I did get onto a local specialist race car shop so I'll give them a go. They supplied me the fuel line hose clips which I couldn't get off the others.
Regards Martin.

Don't forget hydraulic hose shops like HIS and Enzed,  they have a huge range and specialised knowledge.

I went down to the automotive specialist shop and picked up a metre of 5/16" EFI hose, for just under $20.00 AU. Stealth brand and  it's internal external rated submersible. Markings on the hose "5/16 STEALTH444 SERIES EFI HOSE 444-06-M EXCEEDS SAE30R10 which I believe makes it submersible. This would have to make it the cheapest submersible fuel hose I've ever seen. I had a play with it and it seems to bend enough to do the job without crimping over. If it proves to be OK I might have to get a couple of metres for stock
Regards Martin.
