Hi everyone
Hope this intro finds you all well?

I bought my BMW K100RS 16v 1990, two weeks ago, without MOT.

I am currently trying to get the back brake to work.
Today I found  the master cylinder was faulty and am now looking at my options.

I think my immediate searching and questions may be  Master cylinder, Bleeding or ABS related.

study

Best regards
Mark

Hi Mark

Ro - ther - ham...?

Where's that (says the man from Barnsley)

Best thing with any brakes on a new/old bike is strip and clean as far as seems neccessary. What's the exact problem with the brake / what's your skill/experience/facilities level?

Cheers & welcome
chris

Hi Chris
Me and my buddy removed the rear master cylinder yesterday and decided to chance a cheap Ebay cylinder in order to get it through the MOT.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/For-Motorcycle-Pit-Bike-Sportbike-ATV-Rear-Foot-Brake-Master-Cylinder-Reservoir/113231387491?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D56113%26meid%3D99f5db01464c4d45b82721184db4e8a7%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D233142267970%26itm%3D113231387491&_trksid=p2481888.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3A5bb215d6-440a-11e9-bc84-74dbd1805afc%7Cparentrq%3A6d2a65e31690ab6af3305967fff22751%7Ciid%3A1

I guess it will take a little bit of work to fit but think we can manage it.
I am a bit concerned about the flashing ABS lights and was wondering how I can turn them off for the MOT?

Thanks for your welcome
Mark

Good choice.  All three of my Bricks have that master cylinder on the rear brake.

Post #32 is where the description of how I did it starts.  If you have some simple tools including a drill, you can do the whole job in under four hours(I did the last one in 2 1/2 hours start to finish).  Be sure to read the last post on the thread.  It's where I add some comments based on my experience with three replacements.

As far as the flashing ABS lights, try doing a reset by grounding the middle pin on the blue diagnostic plug and turning on the ignition.  It sometimes helps to unplug the ABS brain for a day or so if you have a stubborn "brain" fault.

I think that pulling the ABS relays can stop the blinking as well.  Not sure if the inspector will allow it.

Have you tried to ride the bike?  The ABS goes through a self test, the last part being as you ride off. Over about 4mph you should hear the self test compete and the ABS bulb should extinguish.
