Why you shouldn't drop a fully loaded K1100LT on your right foot at a gas station Foot.Broken.Xray

This happened in Taft, California about 1,300 miles into my loop of the western states.  Were I a sane, rational person I would've gone to a clinic the next day and then headed home.  However, since I'm not, I holed up at a Hilton in Palmdale and iced it down for a couple of days until I could hobble around on my right heel without a whole lot of pain.  Then, since I could still shift just fine with my left foot, I hopped back on the bike and rode another 3,300 miles to complete the trip I'd planned.

Now, as if that weren't enough "adventure" for one ride, a few days later I stopped by to visit a K1100LT owner in Salida that I'd sold some parts to and he'd invited me to stop by if I were ever in Colorado.  About 30 minutes after meeting him and checking out the LT he is restoring from a lowside,  I went outside to get something off of my bike.  When I came back in he was slumped over in a chair, unable to speak and suffering a MAJOR STROKE.  affraid

I immediately called 911 and given the severity of the stroke he ended up having to be life-flighted to Colorado Springs. Thankfully, I spoke to him a couple of weeks later and he was fully recovered and back at home.  Since he lives alone it's incredibly fortunate that I happened to be there when this occurred.

Aside from those little incidents it was an excellent 4,600 mile ride but I do hope my next ride is a bit less "interesting."  Very Happy

Along the way I visited a K100 owner, a K75 owner and a K1100LT owner.

Here's my GPS track:

OUCH! that hurts even looking at the pics. But in true biker fashion you continued on to save a life.

My wife is a stroke nurse - by being there just after it happened you did indeed save his life in more ways than the obvious one. You've given him a quality of life that he most likely wouldn't have had, if even a few more minutes had passed.

As for the foot: I know damn well I'd have been equally as stupid!! Why you shouldn't drop a fully loaded K1100LT on your right foot at a gas station 44271

No body has asked it so I will.
Did you scratch the bike?

Ah, the truly important question.

No. It landed not too hard on the right case and riding peg on the crash bar.  The right mirror got knocked off too but that's covered in Line-X truck bed liner so it didn't scratch and all I had to do was pop that back on.

Seems as though my foot took the brunt of the impact. Rolling Eyes
