Am SLOWLY going through my K100RS 1984 and cleaning up the electrics.

A couple of little questions:

Fan wiring: from fan to first connector is violet/yellow and brown wires. Violet/yellow is fraying. Brown has broken at the clip and male 3mm spade connector is gone.
Q: Has anyone worked out a cheap source of wiring to match the variety of coloured wires on (our) bikes? I would like to replace with same colouring. Am thinking go to a wrecker's yard and get a wiring loom from a car.
Q: where to get some connectors of this small size?

In both cases, Jaycar does not have the right bits. I know I could bodge it up ... will if I can't find a correct alternative.

Have been squinting at the Clymer wiring diagram. It was only after I got a A3 enlargement of it that I could finally read it. What a difference

And while I'm here...confirmation sought

Found a single brown/green wire broken off at small white connector. Same type of male connector as above. Joins under the RHS of fuel tank. The other end heads down to the Hall Effect Sensor and further along into the LHS front of the engine. I assume it is the oil pressure sensor. It looked important but had no effect on the bike's running previously.

Thanks

Guy

Guy get your wiring diagram laminated Office Works will do it. Then get a couple of Chinagraph pencils these can be used to map out the wiring and then rubbed out over and over. Office Works can order the pencils available in black or white.
Regards Martin.

Guy:

1. Yes to your question on the green/brown wire. It does belong to the oil pressure switch.
2. Yes to A3! Long gone are the days when I could work from an A4 diagram.
3. Wiring... can't speak for an Ozzie supplier but what you're looking for is this:

http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/section.php/198/1/single-core-pvc-thin-wall-cable

Every colour you need can be had in 16.5amp 1mm sq cables. Given the choice, I'd advise you to use PVC sleeving rather than tape of any description. If you make a mistake, it's far easier to backtrack. This is my wiring corner:-

Yeah - that's three reels of Goodridge brake hose on the left. Someone was selling it off at £2.50 a metre on ebay, so I bit his arm off for three lots of 20m. Still don't know why I bought the blue though... Razz

If they're any use and you want bigger versions, just shout.

Well blue brake hose...don't laugh.

At K Fest a certain K75 was there with a largely purple colour scheme and some flowers on it. The owner has some FB pages called Shel Does Stuff all relating to K bikes. Rather good too.

On the Sunday said Shel is heading off and we all say our goodbyes. An hour later walking around I spotted the K75 up on main stand at a brake specialist trade stand. Naturally I went over to see all was ok was there brake trouble, guy there was evasive until I said the owner left us over an hour ago and we are wondering if there is a problem. No, none at all, we are making up a set of matching purple brake lines for it and measuring all the hoses from the bike.

They had all sorts of colours there.....

Huh - just down the road from me. Well, twenty miles or so anyway Very Happy

If you're looking in the UK then go to Vehicle Wiring Products for both the wire and the connectors. The price you see is the price you pay (I have to pay 20% VAT on top of that! Sad ); plus you can see up front what the shipping charge will be. I've been dealing with them for over thirty years and never a slip-up or slow delivery yet.

If you want to buy connectors closer to home (and a lot cheaper TBH):

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/40-Set-2-8mm-Motorcycle-Car-Electrical-2-3-4-6-Pin-Wire-Auto-Connectors-Terminal/263798714432?epid=25014350961&hash=item3d6ba0f040:g:YUEAAOSwlQ9bdk-X

I bought some out of curiosity and was pleasantly surprised when they arrived. They're more than capable of handling the current on a brick.

Still, I'd have thought someone in Oz would be selling the stuff...?

Elizabeth's comment is - "At least I know where you are!" and I get through an awful lot of audiobooks when wiring up bikes!

Oh yes - and if you're buying relays be very, very careful. BMW used a now-defunct DIN standard for the K relays; the current DIN standard swaps pin 30 and pin 85 in comparison to the older one. If you're doing a scratch build I'd consider going for the modern relays because if anything goes wrong, you'll be able to buy a replacement at any auto shop. Put a newer DIN relay into the existing wiring setup and you'll probably need the fire brigade. It's no change to the wiring loom; just to the positions that you push the terminals in to in the relay blocks.

Have you tried to use my diagram page?
I printed (on a plotter) the full color diagram in A1 format and laminated it.
