Electrical k100 mystery..help!
I have a 91 k100rs 16v
with 85,000 miles.this is my first k and last time I did any serious
bike fixing ( and that never was electrics)men were men and bikes didnt’ have
computers and ..enough. I had a problem whereby the starter was intermittent
and the lights ( all electrics ) would
flicker off if the revs were below 2-3,000 rpm. This would go sometimes after
the clunk of engaging 1st. After some research I gathered there
could be an issue with the electrics being earthed though the starter motor and
therefore problems could arise if the brushes were worn.So I took out the alternator, cleaned it up and
soldered in new bushes as the old ones were worn. Then removed the starter,
replaced the brushes as they were really shot and cleaned the commutator as I gathered that can also affect earthing .
I put it all back together , switch on, fire the starter and
lights and hey presto, starter turning like new, lights and all electrics
working fine. Small problem though, the bike won’t start ( the bike always ran
fine with the previous problems and would always bump start first time if
needed). On investigation there is now
no spark at the plugs and I don’t think any fuel happening in the plugs, though
I can hear the pump working from the petrol tank .
I’ve cleaned and checked the ecu .?( fuel) computer
connector which had to come off to get at the goodies.Gone through every
connection i can. find Any thoughts from
anyone for a novice ? Could it be something I haven’t been near , like the hall
effect sensor ? also anyone know how to check the sidestand cut out switch is
good ( again never had any problems) . The bike has been standing for
about a
month.
Any thoughts on this gratefully accepted. Richard
