I live in a rural area and frequently need to dodge kangaroos and live stock at night. The 7" round aftermarket light on my K seems reasonable but has anyone tried these

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/H4-7Inch-200W-CREE-LED-Driving-Light-Headlight-Lamp-Kit-Round-For-Jeep-Wrangler/252428320874?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

In the past I have tried various led/hid kit replacement bulbs but nothing really cut it. I do plan to fit the relays the everyone recommends to get the load off of my switch but maybe these are better????

Would be very interested in your findings should you go for that headlight Marc. Only thing that would put me off is the claims of 200 watt, that would be a lot of power consumption for an LED, and watts are not a measurement of light (lumen). Makes me think that the seller doesn't know what he is talking about.
I have also tried many LED bulbs and they just don't work unless fitted to projector headlights, even then they do not seem to match the light output of a halogen.

That doesn't sound right to me either.

It's also an unbranded product.

You may have unwittingly found a good connector for the pre 85 type tank. Anybody out there care to order one to find out. I would do it but haven't got a pre 85 tank.

Lots of crap has been put out over the years but they're actually making progress on them these days. I have all of my bikes upgraded to high power halogen but if and when I get another K I may try one of the newer H4 LED bulbs. They're not cheap though. I think decent ones run about $80 in the US.

I have also tried many LED bulbs and they just don't work unless fitted to projector headlights, even then they do not seem to match the light output of a halogen.

I recently bought some h4 led head lights , (but used in the tin box so far)
of corse the Chinese cheat  you may find that the total light output of 2 globes is the equivalent of 2 x 100 watt poorly designed incandescent globes   and could well be only 40 - 45 real watts or so for each globe but rated in some weird Chinese version of lumen output for the leds .

I must say the light output (that I purchased for not much money at all)  is very impressive  with 2 of 3 elements active on low beam  lets say 30 watts of power going in each side for low beam ...the high beam is the third element active as well  and I would guess another 15  watts of led lighting making 45 watts total for each globe …  the light on the road is amazing just on low beam  .

the issue I have is it requires realigning the beam to a lower angle as the spread of light is quite high relatively to the horizon ...id say suffering from a wider element of light (a bit like the corona of hid type lights with the full globe acting as the light source rather than the halogen filament  only ) affecting the focus .

the linked report is quite interesting and I  will wait to see if the manufacturing process spreads ( as is the usual norm in china) as they rip off the process developed by others .

what I bought
LED headlight replacement 20180713

what it looks like on low beam ...very impressive in comparison to halogen Plus 50 s

LED headlight replacement 20180714

we could see, quite soon, amazing results for not much money at all .

As can be seen from Charlies post above, LED bulbs do not work in standard reflector headlights as the beam cut off is completely destroyed.
To maintain the correct beam pattern requires a halogen filament, that puts out light in every direction, 360 degrees, to be in exactly the correct place in the reflector. No LED meets these needs so you lose your cut off and stray light ends up everywhere. With that stray light being whiter than a halogen, people believe that there is more or better light.
There is no such thing now as a high power halogen as halogen has reached the peak of its development. People think that a 100 watt halogen has 90% more light as a 55 watt standard, it has not, it has about 10 to 20% more light and 90% more heat!

The only deer I've ever hit was when I was driving my car home from work at midnight 20 years ago. The deer bounced off the right fender and bounded into the woods. The only damage was its impact broke  the deer whistle mounted on that side. I haven't invested in one since then. Smile

Several products available including one called Shu Roo. No personal experience of their effectiveness but some swear by them.

I've never had Shu Roos and never hit anything besides suicidal birds. I have however run over a Roo's tail. He came out of the dark and propped fair smack on the white line and just looked at me. I had two choices stay on the right side of the road and go in front of him. Or go on the wrong side of the road and go behind him. At the last minute I crossed the line and ran over his tail. Roo's can't jump backwards. Shu Roo's work up until you hit one.
Regards Martin.

Those Roo whistles are about as usefull as tits on a lizard. Roos have the same hearing characteristics of humans. That is they don't hear any noise  above 20000hz and at anything above about 30kph the whistle is above 20000hz so the roo cant hear it.
I have tried this out on roos in my front yard and when I blow through the whistler the rood will stand up and look about but only if I can hear the whistle and if I blow hard enough for the whistle to be out of my hearing range the roos don't react because they don't hear it.
but if you are in the habit of taking the dog in the car/sidecar it will drive them crazy.

I had them on my pilot/escort vehicles when I worked out in the desert. I believe that the roos do hear them. I used to see them look around and see the car coming. They seemed to catch their attention and give them an early warning to your approach. There was no startled jumping, just inquisitive looks. I will put them on the K but there is no substitute for being able to see them.

If you want to see direct comparisons of LED, halogen and HID xenon, then I have done a blog post. I used ny Ducati for the experiments as it is a single filament H11 bulb. The light output cannot be seen from the photos as the camera compensates for that, but the LED is the least light, the halogen about 50% brighter and the HID kit about 300% brighter than the halogen.
I would not want to use anything other than a halogen in a twin filament H4 bulb.
