Ha, we get a quick mention on the Bob's BMW eBay site. The things we hang on to.
I'd go for that tank if I had the use.

Yeah, your red tank is a little sleeker, more beluga whale to the black one's Frankenstein's head.

Red beluga, yes!  Who decided that 330 kms was about the limit that a rider wanted to go before needing to get off?  A 5-600 km range seems like it would be more desirable (to me anyway).  I get it that it puts a lot more weight up high potentially.  What's the volume on your new tank Duck?  Is that a stock tank or an up-grade?

It's certainly a custom tank. I have no idea what the volume is. I don't really need it but figured for that price and being the right color it was worth getting just for the hell of it.

Later this summer I'll fill it up, throw some spare fuel in a side case and see what the range of it is just for the heck of it.

The farthest I've ever made it on that bike with the stock tank is 204 miles. I'm guessing 300 miles, maybe more, with the big tank.

It's a compelling piece of gasoline folk-art that would be inspiring mounted on a K75 set against a background ribbon of pavement wending through parched fields within a corridor of barbed wire and tumbleweed, is all. Who could be blamed for coveting that? No clip-ons needed!
 cheers

If that tank is a piece of folk art then trying to sell it for the prices offered so far is a piece of performance art which embodies a nihilistic commentary on radical consumerism and human suffering   affraid

Would be quite useful for sidecar traveling out in the bush.
Would never win any beauty contests though... study

Its called a Randolph tank.

Its 29 litres.

How do I know?

This time last year I looked at buying one, I was quoted $750 plus shipping. Shipping to Ireland from US was about $300 then add 23% taxes and EU duty of another 11% it was running $1400 plus painting and putting badges on it. All in it was going to stand me about €1,400 by the time it went on the K100RT I wanted to put it on.

September I went to France and somehow ended up buying a K1100LT for €1,400 instead....which happens to be Mystic Red. Its got a decent tank but it came with a whole K1100LT attached to it. Since I picked up this in October I have 14,000 miles on it.

Then in May this year I go to France again. Not long before going I spy a 'used' Mystic Red petrol tank on eBay. K1100. Mystic Red and stuck up a bid. No other bidders. I won it. What arrived a short while before I went to France was a brand spanking new in its original BMW shipping box K1100 tank in Mystic Red to suit my K1100.........never been on a bike at all.

So that's why it didn't sell last October; the price wasn't high enough. Good point! Smile

Here is another Randolph tank similar in appearance to the red tank duck purchased. The claim in the article is that it has 32 liters capacity. Saxon's point about sidecar usage is also a good one.
