Lovely! Fitting those is a very nice way to tart-up a K-bike. Good work.

there are probably more ways to do this but this is how I did it :Woodie wrote:Very nice! Now I want them. How do I do this?
- take the original part and put PVA on the outside. this prevents the expoxy resin of sticking to the plastic.
- then put 2 layers of carbon fiber with epoxy resin on the outside of the part.
- pull of the plastic part and add 2 or 3 layers of glass fiber to the inside of the part to reinforce it. I did this using a vacuum bag so that i was sure that there were no air bubbles in between the layers.
- then add 2 layers of ultra clear epoxy resin (without any kind of fiber) to the outside so that when this is cured you can sand then down to get a smooth surface that you can buff.
remember to sand in between different steps wit a 280 grid. When you add the resin the 280 grid marks go away.
Basically it is a way of working backwards then the standard way of making carbon fiber parts but it works.
The carbon fiber part will be +/- 0.3 mm bigger then the original parts because you add 2 layers of carbon fiber to the outside but fitting wise this is not an issue.

You can buy stick on carbon that looks like it is real. There is no point in trying to save weight by using the real thing as the K will still weigh the same as a baby elephant afterwards.

stick on carbon on a flat surface is easy but on parts like the battery cover are not so easy to get right.BobT wrote:You can buy stick on carbon that looks like it is real. I also don't think this stick on carbon will stay on for ever, nothing beats the real thing.
I am not doing it to save weight but more for the look of it.

This topic is intended for people who want to use carbon fiber not compare carbon fiber with stickers. If you want to use stickers then please do so.

This thread is on an open K bike forum where anyone who is a member can discuss anything. It would be unfair for others not to know what else that they can do to achieve the same look, after all you said yourself "I am not doing it to save weight but more for the look of it."mister_anger wrote:This topic is intended for people who want to use carbon fiber not compare carbon fiber with stickers. You will not achieve the same look, not even close.
