I got this 93 K1100LT last summer after it had sat collecting dust in a friend's garage for seven years.  The good part was that the last thing done do it before taking its long slumber was that I gave it a spline lube so that I could be 100% that that wasn't necessary. The tank was the usual black goo & dead fuel pump scenario.

So I redid all of the fluids, fuel system and new brake pads. I also swapped in an Ohlins and a ceramic coated Staintune.  The ABS I system is fully functional. Also borrowed the Russell Day Long from my other K1100LT and did all sorts of lighting and LED stuff to it. And of course CCS-100 cruise control.

Put a little over 4,000 miles on it last September.  Rides like a champ.

A couple of weeks ago I swapped in some black powder coated K1100RS wheels with brand new Brdigestone T30s.

It's a pretty dialed in K bike now. When I bought it my plan was to resuscitate it and flip it but I really like it and am having second thoughts about selling it even though the last thing I need is another K bike.

On Friday, April 30 a guy from San Francisco needed a decent non-leaking tank for a $150 85 K100RS he is bringing back to life.  I decided not to ship the tank but instead strap it onto the rear of the LT and do a four day 2,000 mile round trip along the California coast to deliver it in person.

I spent Tuesday riding down the Oregon coast. On Wednesday morning I awoke to a perfectly sunny day.  Highway 1 in California was in excellent shape and, since it hadn't rained recently, all of the turns were free of gravel.  Being mid-week out of tourist season the traffic was very minimal. Out of the hundreds of thousands of miles I've ridden, it's probably the best day of riding I've EVER had. cheers

Highway 1 on the Pacific Coast is special, that's for sure.  Riding it before the vacationers in RVs arrive is key to its enjoyment.  I'm very happy to learn you are pleased with the K1100LT.  Mine should be delivered next week sometime, after what seems like an eternity of waiting.  I hope it's as nice as the pix I saw before putting my $$$ down!   Gas tank delivery 652573
I know I'll need to fit some new tires, but I hope I don't find a mass of rubber goo in the fuel tank. What are the chances?   Exclamation
BTW, you wouldn't happen to have a bit of video of your good self mounting that bike with the extra fuel tank, would you?   lol!

I came across a K1100LT tank in my colour a few weeks ago and decided best buy it. No issues with my tank but delivered it was under €100 so I couldn't refuse it. It came in its BMW box and looks brand new, never been on a bike!!

Sounds like a good ride and I bet the buyer was pleased with the personal touch.

He put me up for the night and I spent a few hours teaching him some K stuff that would be useful to him.

He also had a couple of original Indians as well as a really cool Vincent that was in great original shape - running and ridable with a current plate.

Here's one of the Indians:

Later this summer he's riding an old Indian across the country in this event:
