I have been offered a K100rt ex police bike for $500au that I want to convert to a dual seater. I know I will need a seat, duck tail and foot pegs. Will I need seat hinges, a different latch. under tray or any other bits. I have not laid eyes on the bike yet but coming from a good mate I know it will be OK. He is not sure what I will need and has not looked into this side of a resto because he wanted to cafe racer it.

I would be inclined to get it going and rideable before spending too much on it. I have a lot of spares that I want to move on as I need the room. If there is anything you need send a PM and ask me. The good bit is some things might cost a six pack and the bad you may have to share it with me. Laughing

I tend to agree rick

if the mate has the spares but cant be bothered , possibly ask for them incase your idea of necessary is different to his ?

shouldn't be hard to get it running before searching for the extras

cheers and good luck

I bought a BMW conversion kit 20 years back to convert a 1987 K100 RT from police specs to dual seat etc  ...cost $1,100.00 bucks then which included dual comfort seat .. new ducktail... new side (battery) covers .. new footrests and new different rear indicators.. and also the minute rubber seal for the ducktail  .. far as i can remember seat hinges and latches were no problem apart from the tiny clips that hold them together and it was just a matter of installing the parts and then connecting the wiring; and putting vaseline on the mounting rubbers and pins on the side covers to make installation easier. Only other problem i had was reinstalling air filter connection rubbers after changing the air filter they just would not budge until i sprayed them with armor all...slipped on easy as then  ..cheers

I have one bike that was a dual seat conversion, but still using some single seat components including the single seat hinge, relocated. It worked, but wasn't as stable at the proper dual seat setup. I sourced the parts, mostly second hand and the result is a worthwhile improvement, though not strictly essential.

It did. Now it wont start because everything inside the fuel system is goo-d up again

Can anyone tell me exactly what I need to convert to a dual seat from a Police single, are there any extra hinges, mounts and  is the under tray different?

Will an old style (early) duck tail fit with a later seat and vice versa. Or do I need a matching pair?

simple answer on the seat ...and early - later models

no
the ducktail has handles on the ducktail after 86   previous  to that was built into the seat , so the seat profile wont fit the later ducktail

a few have converted from single seat  to dual  usually requires a rear end pivot hinge and brace across the inards of the ducktail

across the years  different front and rear seat hinges also exist

like this  , just a sample of some

Early is '83 thru '85 only, then '86 model year on-all seats & cowls are interchangeable. As for hinges, what Charlie said.
