Hello folks
I wonder if anyone else is like me, every time I see an unusual machine I get to thinking" Gee I wonder if I should get one of those?"

The reason I'm bringing it up is stupid. I am very happy with my bike, but I only have one now....you all know the feeling.

I have been seeing a Triumph Scrambler with a sidecar attached doodling around my area lately, with the standard
Dog in the box. I can't help thinking, those things don't fall over, then I think of Waz and have a reality check.

Yesterday I saw a Royal Enfield Himalayan. 411cc of incomplete grunt. But, you know I liked it. Now I want one.

As well as a Kawasaki W800. The list goes on.

Where does this stop. I can hardly do a decent ride with my joints as it is. Maybe I should move on to a sports car, which I can't get in or out of and am too bald to pull chicks (forgetting about my current marriage status)

Oh well, be nice to know if I'm not alone.

And yes, getting bored like the rest of us.
RT

Actually, the Himalayan is a shedload of fun, probably because it is a bit underpowered. I had two days on one in its home territory and it was okay until we climbed above about 9500 feet. After that, the carb (not FI) had a bit of trouble coping until we got below that again. Otherwise for me the handlebar/footrest/arse triangle was perfect (I'm 5'10" / 172cm), even when standing on the pegs (which I did a lot of on those roads! Smile )

Then you think that Waz is building another one, so where does that reality check go?

A mate has a BMW Z3 sports car. Getting in & out isn't convenient, but fun once you're in it. Mind you, if the sports car was a Ferrari, the chicks mightn't be too concerned about baldness!

Might have to organise a meeting with BYO coffee and keeping our social distance. Smile

Thanks Dai, you were supposed to say "pile of poo, don't go anywhere near it".
And yes Bill, soon as I see a sunny day here I'll be on the phone.

RT, I have to agreed with Dai, I spent a couple of days on a Himalayan (borrowed a friends) just to get about and get to work & back, great fun and an easy, comfortable ride (6' / 182cm) I didn't get a chance to use it to it's full potential as it was all UK roads.

Dai, I would love to read about your trip up in the mountains - something you'd recommend??

Dave

I read a very good, positive review of the Himalayan in one of the comics: the theme was that, for the cost of your average GS, you could fly to India, have a blast of a holiday on a rented Himalayan in its home territory - where it excelled just as Dai says (with the added knowledge that if it failed, your local village blacksmith could fix it - i.e. a true wilderness bike), and then fly back home and buy one for keepers. And still be quids in.

A different way of looking at it, I thought. Stuck in my mind too.

Interesting dimensions. I calculate 5'10" to be closer to 177cm, but what do I know, I'm stuck in the US, land of Imperial as a measuring system, along with those other stalwart holdouts of the gilded age, Liberia and Myanmar.

There's an official video of an Indian motocross star (with a dot, not a feather) ripping it up on a patch, just prior to the Himalayan being released. It's done in slow motion (or perhaps that was actual speed) and when he lands you can see, for a split second, the left foot rest carrier assembly break right off. He doesn't crash, and continues on as though nothing unusual happened, but it's not edited out.

Enfield's total candor in their marketing is refreshing.

I really enjoyed reading the customer reviews of their motorcycles at the official website.  Things like "when the mudguard fell off on the way home from purchasing my wonderful Enfield motorcycle, the dealer quickly reattached it and didn't charge me for the service at all!"  The reviews are even better if you read them with a heavy Hindu accent, and visualize that figure 8 nod they are wont to do.
