Hi everyone
Joined the forum because I'll probably own a K bike forever - I've had my K100 since 1987 (actually not true - I've owned a K100 with the same reg no. since 1987...most of the engine and the rear bevel are original) and, I've almost finished a customised K75. I love K's. I'm going to post on the 'custom' forum - I'd welcome some ideas about the K75...
Thanks
chris

(I really struggle with posting pictures - maybe the below link/image/whatever? will be a pic of the project)

Hi Chris and welcome....

Not surprised you have a K like considering you're in the same neighbourhood as Motorworks.....

Feel free to be popping across the water in our direction too.

Hi and thanks for your replies.
I was going to start a thread for the project in the cafe racer/custom section so's anyone could look if they were interested, or maybe give me some  thoughts on which way to go with the exhaust. Unfortunately it doesn't look as though I'm allowed to start a topic (?) , sorry but thanks anyway scratch

Your struggle is over; furthermore, I can't view your images without starting an account and I'm not going to do that until I'm sure they're worth it. Laughing

Here's one way to post your images here, Chris. Click the leftmost icon in the upper right-side panel of icons in the tool bar above the Reply box. Be sure your cursor is blinking in the Reply box where you want the photo. Click the Select files  button then select an image from your computer, click the Save All button, wait a moment until the image appears in the utility box, then click Insert All and it will appear in the Reply box. You can do multiples that way, too.

Try again to start a topic about your custom. If you can't, it's probably because you still need a count of 10 posts to get going or maybe you just got ahead of yourself. It happens. Smile

Hi K-Rider (Denmark - home of the Raveonettes - yay!)

Not painting the frame until ithas its Single Vehicle Approval pre-registration test. I thought it would be helpful if the examiner could see the welding.
I can weld a bit (actually I can't - like most amateurs all I can do is stick metal together) and the guys who did this for me are so good it looks like art to me - I've toyed with the idea of clear laquer on the frame so's I can feel good everytime I look at their skill...

The forks (White Power), yokes, bars and mudguard are from a KTM Duke II. Front wheel is a K (what else!) and the calipers are from a F800

Cheers!

Lots of people have tried their CBRs this way up!

Looks like the ass end of my friends Triumph but from the photos looks like you used an Australian CBR.

On a serious note that's some custom bike and fantastic art. Its a long way off the 'strip the fairings cut the frame and double the price' .  Get some good photos up here, might make the 2018 calendar!!!!!

Thanks for your replies and interest folks. I started this about a year ago just before I retired - I'm serious about the Sachs Madass, I always wanted one because they're just so, fresh.
I'm a big fan of Ks - the bravery of design, and the strength of the engineering. Plus, a K100 was my first big bike way back in 1987 and we grew up, got damaged along the way and grew old and old-fashioned together (still married!). So when it dawned on me that the K-bike compact drive system was just asking to be used as a big-and-grown-up alternative to the Honda C90 derived unit on the Sachs, it felt like destiny - K stands for Karma.
Plus, I'd already got a 'standard' K-bike custom (chopped frame rails, no bodywork - you said it!) so the nexy step had to be something properly bonkers. Took a while to get the layout of the project right - realising what was 'right'about the lines of the Sachs Madass:

Glad to see this thing of mad beauty, chris! Next, how about a ride video, just so to reassure us we're not having some group hallucination? You can wear a balaclava if you need to conceal your identity from the authorities. Laughing

Hi Laitch
Until ten months ago, I WAS the authorities....

Not ridden yet, I've fired it up with a gash loom, but I'm now on with the wiring proper. Yes I'll post a ride video as soon as (help needed!) really appreciate your interest & words.

I like the project, partly because you chose to do something completely different but also I think it is actually a fabulous design. Easy to see some very serious work has gone into that.

Quite a number of years ago I worked alongside an architect who in an earlier life had been a production racer for Lotus and decided to design and build his own car in his garage workshop. Like yours, he was meticulous in getting the design and engineering right and the finished car down to the last detail was like it came from a factory brand new. To get it road legal he had regular inspections and one thing I do remember is that his motor assessor insisted on sight of all the welds. He made a space frame chassis like the Lotus out of Reynolds 531 tubing and I got the look in the whole way because when he told us all about it I was the only one who knew that tubing.

This one deserves its own thread and maybe even a new section in the forum.

A few others on the forum who were the authorities too.......

Hi Olaf, thanks for your appreciation. You make a good point: with a certain level of knowledge you just increase your appreciation of real craftsmanship. I was a jobbing machinist as a young lad, so I know just enough to avoid chopping my fingers off on machine tools, but I have nowhere near the skill of tradesmen. Here's my take on BMW's design facility, ho ho (check out the highly complex analysis of the prototype frame/fuel tank, ahem):

Introduction 01411
Anyway, I think this takes my post count up to ten, so I'll see if I can start a thread in the custom section. Thanks again for your interest
