1985 K100 RS made in 84. Never had the throttle upgrade. Throttle had huge play and you felt bump bump bump as you twisted. At first I thought this was some arcane beemer thing...LOL. Took it all apart and my splines on the tube (maybe chain gear too) are hammered. I feel them gnashing. 

What are my options here? Can I still buy a tube and chain gear (haven't found one)? 

Is there a boxer which uses the same tube?

Is there some aftermarket throttle assembly which will play nice with the stock from brake lever?

It's the 8mm, but i would kill for the correct part numbers. Now I see there are a bunch of different ones.....

I'm not interested in doing the new (post recall) throttle cable at the moment, I just want the right cams and tube for this one

G'day  I am pretty sure the throttle tube and bevel gear on my 93 K75 and my 92 R100R are the same. Not sure about your particular model. Maybe a search on Real OME website will clear this issue with part no. id. Cheers Tom

have you actually tried lubricating the teeth ...
and the handle core to handle bars

and perhaps the cable is particularly tight , the throttle cable is supposed to have a Teflon core around the cable inner , I recently lubricated mine with a Teflon product and a cable injector device ...made a huge difference

and last have you lubricated the throttle bodies axels through the tbs ...

makes a world of difference

Charlie, tomorrow, I am going to file the rough edges on the teeth, clean all and see what happens. The cable pulls fine, but I am going to look at the throttle bodies as you suggest. What lube on the cam you think?

the throttle gears are pretty wild, you don't think anyone ever rode this thing hard, do you?

Seems to run and drive well though. I never met the last owner. I love the bike, very fun to ride.

There they were LOL What I don't get is that space. Why is not a storage area? You know what I mean, under the vents. Seems like a great place for two glove boxes.

Gears on the throttle was a poor idea, IMHO. What it did do was allow BMW to route the cables very neatly along the handlebars. I've also found that even if you do keep the gears greased and the cables correctly routed, those gears still wear out in less than 20,000 miles. BTDT - wasn't amused. If you check closely, I'll bet you find that the teeth that are worst worn are those that engage at the speeds that are most often used.

And yes, there are two different versions of the throttle. I have no idea when they changed but someone here will know.

Connectors: the three-pin male connector is for the optional hazard switch. The two-pin male connector is for the optional heated grips. The three-pin female connector is (most likely) the 'connector for additional instruments'. Check the wire colours: if they are slate/blue, green/black and brown then that's it.

The throttle has changed in 8/91.
I have a bike with the old throttle and a bike with the new throttle.
The old version has some play if turn the throttle and the new version reacts directly, nice and handsome.
