Whilst going over rough patches, pot holes etc. in the road the fairing knocks and rattles. Looking at the exploded views in the Clymer manual it appears to be secured, quite a way back, at 4 points via bolts and rubber grommets, so quite a lot of unsupported weight ahead of the fixings. As the bike is now 30 years old would replacing these grommets stiffen things up and improve the situation as its no 5 minute job taking the fairing off. Thought I would seek advice first before purchasing anything. John

yes ...all  things rubber do shrink - perish
keep in mind that there are usually large washer type thingys used for the mounting of the rubber insulators , I wonder if there are any missing ?

it is quite common that the brackets crack as well , especially with a drop event

good luck !!

The fairing on my K75S moves around a lot as well.  I think the "S" designates "swinger".   With so much mass cantilevered out there it is no wonder it is hard to restrain it.  Also, the distance amplifies the motion so a couple mm of movement at the mount translates to cm out near the speedo and windshield.  I've gone through all my mounts carefully tightening and checking for looseness and can find no real reason for all the movement.  Seems to be the nature of t he beast.

A lot of the K75S bracketry is plastic so it moves around a bit more than it would if it were metal. The cluster mounting on K75Ss is very prone to being wobbly.

Interesting. Will replace the grommets when I dismantle it. I can live with the movement, its the knock, knock that irritates. Will try and find out what is hitting what and hopefully eliminate with the aid of rubber insulation. John

Very important to get the bracket to frame mountings tight and in good order.

The fairing to bracket mounts must have good grommets and must also be done up tight. I went through all mine on the RT and it made a big difference, grommets were old/missing and nuts were missing in some cases.

Can you move the fairing up and down by hand? I had two holes cracked out of the part that mounts to the headstem, and it would not tighten properly.

Yes I can. That sounds worrying. Still waiting for the rubber parts to arrive from Balderstones before I investigate. John

My 1992 K75s fairing is solid, minimal movement, unlike instrument pod which has a fair bit of movement.
Regards Martin.
