The rubber metal hanger bracket has decided it is no longer up to the task. The point where the rubber joins the  metal has delaminated. Before I order a new one I thought I would have a go at either try to reglue the existing rubber or replace the rubber entirely with some form of silicone.  Inge has also pointed out that care needs to be taken if I order a new one as there are two types one for panniers and one for without. I have panniers. So guys any suggestions as to a repair or rebuild.
Regards Martin.

Can you drill the bracket to allow the front and back metal pieces to be screwed or pop riveted together?

I'd just get a new one. They're not too expensive. About $30 in the US.

I ended up siliconing it together and I am going to drill and tap a bolt through it with an over size hole on the bolt head side. I'll put a flat washer under head and Loctite the bolt in place or a locknut allowing for it to move slightly. A $30.00 part in the US equates to about $50.00 plus Au. I am going to phone the local non OEM parts dealer wrecker and see what his price is. I might also try the OEM dealer but they are unlikely to have one and if not it could take anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks. It takes 24 hours for the silicone to cure.

Thanks for the help regards Martin.

I've got a mate who has 3.5 K75's and one K100 all being worked on. I could ask him but I don't like bothering him. In the past he has loaned me parts while I am waiting for bits. He has a tendency not to sell anything. I might change my mind when I get the prices tomorrow.

If you need to change it, and only w/o z-frame versions is available....
you can always grind off a few millimeters on the spigots.

But plug and play is always easiest.......

Inge:

What's the difference between them?  Do the luggage ones have longer spacers on them?

First price in I just rang the local OEM dealer in Bris, $124.35 AU ex Germany. I was going to ring the local BM wrecker but I don't think my heart could take the strain. I going to ring the local Hospital and see what I can get for a kidney. Mate has offered to lend me one so I can order one from overseas probably cheaper than the local BM wrecker.
Regards Martin.

Other way around....as the Z-frames is mounted between the footrest bridge
and the ekshaust mount....the spigots on the version which is used together
with the Z-frames is so much shorter as the space the Z-frames occupies.

Duck after seeing what you reckon the US price is, I thought maybe OEM dealer had stuffed up the price. So I rang a dealer up north and was very careful about describing it. Part numbers I quoted are superseded so I gave him the item number from the parts fiche. I got quoted 4-6 weeks ex Germany $140.00. Same part from Motobins UK $40.29 which includes freight. So I will be ordering from the UK tonight, in the meantime I glued it and ran a bolt through it.
Regards Martin.

Martin,

I found one.  Whack a couple of those numbers off the end of the OEM price and that should cover postage.  Unless you would like to collect.

Dave.

Thanks Dave I've got a brand new one coming from the UK courtesy of Motobins, at a more reasonable $40.00 including freight. I tried the BM shop a few times no answer so I gave up. So I will not have to sell any body parts. Apparently there used to be two types of hangers one for with panniers and one for without. The only difference was the length of the lugs the 6mm bolts go through longer for ones with panniers. I've run a 6mm bolt through the split one as a temporary measure.
Regards Martin

Same parts (18211454981 and 82) are used on K100s.

I think the 82 version is for use with the luggage Z racks,

Duck spot on the 82 is for Z brackets and can be cut down for non pannier mounting.
