I recently removed the RH storage box from my 1986 K100RT for the first time and discovered this loose electrical plug.  Can somebody please tell me what its for?  Some kind of optional electrical accessory?

Okay.  I don't think these bikes were fitted with radios (unlike the LTs?), so maybe a previous owner had one at some stage.

Factory fitted radios are on the left as far as I know , unless PO moved it , which would have taken a lot of modding ,
maybe they had a 2 way CB or intercom unit in there. Just a thought .

I'm going to state the obvious: trace the cable and find out where it hooks into the main loom. If you can then give us the colours of the wires that it connects to, we stand a good chance of identifying its purpose.

Its held in place with some duct tape so it's not factory. Its a coaxial cable connector for an aerial as charlie said. Nothing like that would've been fitted for an AM/FM radio. Its for CB. You'll probably find the other end up the back where the aerial was.
