Have you seen the insurance rate in Quebec?
First they have a no fault insurance (your private insurance pays for your damage even if you are not at fault).
Second any medical coverage due to a traffic accident is covered under the government insurance. For this reason, this year the license plate for a 25 years old K100 cost $750 per year. I believe by 2012 it will be raise to $900.
A sport bike will cost $2,500 for the license plate + your private insurance for the damages on your bike.
In order to keep the cost of insurance low (??), here in Nova Scotia, the government has struck a deal with the insurance companies and the maximum payment for soft tissues injuries or broken bones is capped at $2,500. Even if you spend a year in the hospital, the insurance will only pay for your lost of salary + a maximum of $2,500 for pain and suffering.
If during the time you are in hospital, you have to hire somebody to do a job that you normally do on your own (cutting your grass or maintaining your house), or have to use a taxi because you cannot drive, your insurance will not assume this cost.
Do you call this a scam.
Yes!
