Hi guys

I've been looking for a replacement exhaust for the 1989 k100lt I've recently purchased. The down pipes from the engine are a bit worn with one of them being lost from the 4 into 1 fitting leading into the silencer.

Will I need to replace the 4 into 1 fitting from the engine and then be able to mount any exhaust system, or are only select exhausts compatible for the bike? Sorry if this is a stupid question. Been looking online and I think I'll need a new 4 into 1 system then be able to mount any exhaust but not certain.

Also if there are any suppliers in the UK you recommend I'd be interested in looking on their sites

Thanks
Mike

That wont be a 1998 K100 LT, typo maybe. My K100LT is one of the last ones made, 0193214 only about 50 after it and was made in 1991 but a 1992 registration.

If yours is a K100LT the exhausts are readily available, downpipes etc. Motorworks or Motobins.

Thanks. Sorry meant 1989 (blooming iPhone).

The Downpipes on it are as below, but they are pretty brown and as said one of the pipes is loose going into the one piece tubing.

https://www.motorworks.co.uk/bmw/prodimages/lg/EXK51384.jpg

I was really looking for a different exhaust to the stock one already fitted. Can this be any shape as long as the tubing is the same size where it bolts on?

Cheers

Those are standard K100 LT headers.
What a lot do is take the header pipes and get a 4 -1 collector with a standard outlet on it onto them and then fit a pipe that slips on over the collector. An LT exhaust will be cheap enough, they don't go wrong and don't wear out as they are stainless steel. Cleaning the headers is a mix of elbow grease and stuff and collectors do come up on the forum and on eBay.

You will/should get new studs, nuts and gaskets, not expensive.

I don't think any exhaust gives a power improvement, BMW got it pretty right on that one.

You are looking for a 4-1 collector.

It fits on the standard headers and will fit most aftermarket exhausts.

Not sure where they are on the forum but there are threads here on them.

If you are short a header may be cheaper to go to a breaker and get a full exhaust as they don't fetch much. You can take off the headers and polish them up one at a time. Takes a bit of elbow grease but that's it. 1200 wet and dry works wonders!!

I know you can get a 4-1 collector in Germany

 collector

or the low version Low version

Any 52mm muffler should fit onto the collector.

I have bougth a silencer from Motorworks in UK for my LT, but haven't mounted it yet
Silencer

Motad used to make a K100 aftermarket can that used the four factory header pipes.

I have a black one in my parts stash but here's a picture of a stainless one I found with Google.

I've had a stainless Motad on my solo since 1991..... no problems at all. They don't seem to split like the OEM ones. I also have a new one to go on the outfit at some stage to replace the original one that has cracks in several places.

Unfortunately, I've heard recently that Motad have gone out of business  (So if you can find any one who has a K silencer in stock, it would be worth getting it!)

Paul.
