Earlier this year I got approval from my wife to get a new to me motorcycle.  I looked at a bunch of different bikes but kept coming back to the K bikes.  Many years ago when I was riding a Yamaha I happened to take out an R65 for a test drive.  That one ride made quite an impression and I knew what brand I wanted when it was time to get back into owning and riding again.

I now have an 85 K100RT (just broken in at 67k kms) and I am knee deep in trying to get it on the road again.  This forum has been a huge help so far and I will be relying on everyone a great deal I am sure in keeping my brick running.  I have already begun accumulating spare parts!

Cheers, Andrew

Welcome!  There is a semi active group of riders in the GTA, and I live just across the border.  Not as active as the Ozzies or the Eccentrics, but we're working on it.

Welland?  I have many fond memories of blasting between Concession roads on Welland County M/C enduros.  Ever get to the Welland county speedway?

Thank you for the welcome!  I have lived here in Welland for 16 years now after leaving the GTA.  I have not made it to the speedway but I have been to East Aurora.  I think your back roads are better than mine - you have a lot more hills and turns!

Welcome to the forum!  My family were pioneers in the Port Colborne area, right next to you.  I've visited Welland a couple of times and seems like a gorgeous area for you to get some great use for your RT.

Greetings all from Muir Beach, Ca...
So glad to be here. My name is Chris...
Was doing research to do a conversion of my K100RT into a scrambler as I will be "scrambling" around the Ventana wilderness next year. So glad I found this forum. There is so much good information and help here. I hope I am able to be as helpful.

I'm almost across the finish line now with getting the bike plated and legally rideable.  When I bought the bike there were a few things disassembled and the only part I haven't figured out is the black foam squishy bit below.Good day! Img_0612

What is this and where might it go?

It's a 46631453740.

It goes between the top rear of the crank cover and the right fairing lower.

As Duck says...assuming that you still have the baffle in place to hold it in place!

Sorry - mine wasn't as clean as yours is - I took the picture pre-disassembly, so that I would have a fighting chance of knowing where it went back, a few weeks later...

Awesome day today.  The bike aced the safety inspection yesterday and I got to go for a very fun and much more extended ride today.  Heading into the inspection I was quite hopeful that all would be well but I wasn't entirely sure what I might have missed getting the bike ready.  When I purchased it I didn't take it for a test ride either.  At the end of the day it was new rubber and everything else was pretty much as is.  I'm kind of glad the turn signals put up a bit of a fight because it pushed me to tear into the bike much more than I might have.  I somewhat worked through the check list on the Portal as well.  I have a few more things to do to the bike but nothing major and nothing that will prevent me from enjoying the bike now.

I can't imagine there is a more fully supported vintage bike than the K.

Cheers

Cangrats on getting her road legal!

As far as support, I can't imagine another vintage bike where so many are used daily and for long cross country tours.  You will soon learn how these machines can inspire pleasure and confidence.

My 84 K100RT is my main mode of transport. Its ultra reliable and very comfortable plus free parking wherever you go!

The car does about 2-3000 miles a year.

That's my intention as well Olaf at least as long as my Canadian winter complies.  Will the seat below work?  My two thoughts for changing the stock seat were comfort and to accommodate my stubby inseam.  If it won't be more comfortable then I can live with seat at the current height.

Good day! Seat11

You could alternatively install a low seat. Requires several different parts and mounting though.

Good day! 001

Another option is to have the foam shaved along the sides of the rider portion of the seat to get your feet down farther when stopped.

The seat above is off of an RS.  I neglected to ask what year but if my online reading is correct, most things are workable between the bikes even if it involves some adapting.

I'm half way through doing my spline lube on the rear end.  The best thing about this bike is that it is so well documented....and it's also the worst thing Very Happy .  I'm not overly neurotic but since countless issues have been covered here and the bike is still new to me, I sometimes think every rattle or thunk is one of the many things that has gone wrong with other K's.  The splines look good though.

My goal for the year is to ride it until the snow flies and then spend the winter doing as much work as I possibly can with cleaning, bearings, paint, etc.  Id love to get the engine to look like what you show above Duck.
