My front fork is leaking from my K1100RS from 1992.

I'm thinking I'll replace what ever needs to be replaced.

Is there on this forum a guide the I would apreseate a link.

Maybe also a link to where a guy from Denmark could order the parts.

If it's leaking from the top then it's probably just the fill plug in the top cap. It takes an 8mm Allen key and if it's been over tightened it's probably stripped and won't seal. You'll get a second hand one somewhere.

You'll need to drain both and refill with fresh fork oil. Double check but I'm pretty sure they take different quantities of oil.

I stripped the thread on one of my forks some time ago and used a schrader valve (tyre valve) in both. I didn't put any air pressure in them but was asked on many occasions if I did.

To get to the under side you need to get the small plate out. From what I recall it comes out easily with a screwdriver in one of the holes and the spring holds it in.

Thanks guys but I'm totally blank and English is not my native language. I'm pretty sure the leak is because the rubber "things" that prevents leaking is worn out.

I need a guide with pictures showing what I need to take apart and how. How much oil (and which) I need to refill. Any special tools (picture or I'll be totally lost, and hopefully link to where it can be ordered).

Or someone needs to tell me "don't do this yourself"

Ignore him (sigh) Leak from front fork K1100RS 1992 44271 Either the Haynes or the Clymer manuals have instructions on changing the fork seals ("the rubber "things" that prevents leaking").

If you do this yourself or pay a workshop only use genuine BMW seals.
I have also sent a message with a link to the Haynes manual.

The OP mentions the oil is leaking from the top of the forks. Would this be seals? If it were seals wouldn't oil be seeping from where the slider meets the stauntion?
I tend to think its simply the fill plug on top of the fork. That's what happened to my K1100. Had a tiny bit of oil seeping after a drain and refill.

Rick thanks so much for the message. I'm checking it out now.

Ok gentlemen sorry I do not know all the technical terms should have used google translate how ever I'm sure any one can figure out what "the rubber things" mean. Actually funny 😂

I have no clue to what the parts are called but Holister the leak is not from the plug on top of the fork but where the inner frontleg moves up and down into the outer frontleg. Right where a fork normally would leak. On this picture you can actually see the leek on the leg that is fare away.

I've done repairs like this on Japanese bikes way back. I was just hoping there would have been a thread on this forum with a simple guide. You know like:

1. Take off the bottom part of the fairing (had to google that word 🤣).

2. Raise the bike with a jack (or what ever).

3. Secure the bike doesn't fall down.

3 take off front wheel.

4. Take off nut A, B and C

5. Bla, bla.

6. More bla, bla.

Hey Danish Biker, no problem. Just follow Rick's advice. But just for the record, because you've deleted what you said above, you did say it was leaking from the top, not half way down the fork. Very Happy Cheers

Holster I'm well aware about that fact but deleting it will help future members answering this tread (and it's still leaking from the top 😂, just not the top you thought 😎).

Any way one a side note. Since only the left front fork is leaking wouldn't it then be ok not to mess with the right leg which is ok? Both "rubber things that prevent leaking" (sorry Danish humor), was changed about 7.000 km ago. I'm not riding any races etc. just to and from work so I'm thinking why take apart something that is not leaking.

OK... you see I'm from downunda so I can get confused occasionally about what's the top and what the bottom. Makes it very interesting sometimes when dealing with women.... Laughing

That is the ABS wheel speed sensor. Some penetrating oil (ATF mixed with acetone 50:50 and gently tap it with a hammer wooden handle going around it.

Inge K been waiting for you 👍

That was my idea. Probably have to find the old tread where you told be how to get the tank off. Seem to remember there was something vital about taking the pressure off the fuel system.

Lady and gentlemen thanks a lot. The forks are off. I'll probably take the to the BMW shop and let them fix the leak.

Always a pleasure to visit this forum.
