Gday k forum, I'm Ashley from far north Queensland Australia..officially a newbie to BMW bikes, I've just inherited a k100 84 from my boss..he's moving to USA and decided I'd give this old girl some love..she's stripped down to bare naked thus a blank canvas..never really looked at these k bikes before but after some hrs researching I'm super excited and kicking myself for not knowing them earlier..I also have a triumph thruxton and ktm chook chaser 250..looking forward to being part of this community whilst picking up some great refurbish ideas to build my dream bike.. cheers Ashley

welcome Ash ...

have fun mate ...psst you might find them better to ride up around Malanda , Atherton et al ..away from the coast in the warm months

they are a great heat machine ...but if you do the research you can minimise the heat issues greatly

good luck

Thanks Charlie,   I hear they can be quite warm on the leg, the Atherton Tablelands cooler weather should sort that out, also with a dip in a waterfall after a blast up the famous Gillies Range   Very Happy

Giday Ash welcome to our Knuthaus.
I am thinking that the Oz Forum members need to have a ride up your way in winter.

Again thx for the welcome. I'd post some pics but can't work it out from my phone and I don't have a laptop..anyway the old girl is a bit worse for wear . I wheeled it outside for a wash and inspection today to assess the work scope..my gosh I was a little overwhelmed with whats needed..a lot of stuff is missing as my boss had some pretty wild ideas for it. I came to the mind set of not rush and nail one thing at a time..will have a bucket load of questions for you beema specialists in the near future.cheers

Welcome to the forum too from the Northern Territory.

You will find all the help you need here and a lot of good advice about parts and parts sources.

Probably a good idea to start a new thread for your K and pop up some photos of the K as it is. Some of the missing parts may be fiddly but may be easy to come by. Don't go rushing off to buy parts because subtle little changes made over the lifetime of the K does mean you have to be careful buying some parts because of modifications.

Like us guys up here the guys near you love a K get together and there have been some amazing weekend work sessions on Ks posted from Au. If you can bake good sKones and have a place for pitching a few tents you are on a head start there. A bbq somewhere and one of those cold beer thingies and you are made!.

Hey nice to meet you 92kk 84ww olaf. Thx for the info, I've just started surfing this forum ( actually I'm a newbie to forums )and will start my own thread when I learn to navigate. Pretty damn happy I found this group as I'm  excited to have a BMW project to start from ground up. Always wanted to.. and the opportunity presented, however a big challenge, it's  a huge weight off the shoulders knowing I have this forum as backing..sounds like the aussie K contingent is strong , would be great to figure out who is close by..well flea is just up the hill, so will have to pay him a visit one day on my weekend cruise of the tablelands..

So far there had not been a problem we haven't been able to help solve so it sort of becomes a throw down the gauntlet sometimes.
I have a great heap of spares some free and the rest at reasonable prices so if you need something think of me and how I am a poor struggling pensioner. Laughing
I have been trying to divest my self of a lot of parts that have been accumulated over the last 20 years.

no worrys ash ,come for a ride / drive up here any time , if you havnt already have a look on cairns gumtree ,there is a 84 k1 café racer up for sale ,not suggesting you buy it but with a bare bones project it might help to give a few ideas of whats possible if you decide to get away from traditional

ah rick ,you and I might have to have a talk ,might be chasing some parts shortly , just bought the tdm850 off the same bloke as the bmw ,so I'm broke for a fair while but also means the pressures off for a long distance bike and will be able to take my time on the bmw .. by the way you have hinted of a forum ride up nth ,well iv got plenty of room for tents and a fire if it happens
