This might help someone elses troubleshooting.
My RT has had a light rythmic rattle coming from the brakes for a while, its been driving me mad. Also had sqeualing pads.
I'd already cleaned the pad backing and applied an anti squeal coating (this worked), sanded and cleaned the pins that the pads slide on and applied a thin smear of moly to the pins where the pads slide to help the pads move, cleaned the inside of the calipers for the same reason. I know that some upgrade to stainless caliper pins, but we generally don't get the corrosion problems here in OZ to warrant it. All this improved the brake performance but didn't get rid of the ticking.
I noticed that one of the 'W' shaped spring that holds down the centre pin on top of the pads was slightly loose. So I removed it and straightened it a little to put pressure on the tapered centre pin the way it was originally. The ticking noise is now gone, it was simply the W spring and the centre pin moving a little.
