Some one smarter than me may be able to set the link better.

Turns out the guy is an elephant keeper at Taronga Western Plains Zoo at Dubbo. Some people think he should now be fired. Apparently, he should have let his dog be killed!

Having been hit in the stomach by the back legs of a much smaller kangaroo, I'd have been inclined to use a rifle rather than a fist. Those guys are mostly placid, but can be very dangerous!

Right... are those 'some people' actually able to make the connection between protecting his dog and caring for elephants? I thought so.... not.

"Some people" are often somewhere in a line between 'not very smart' and 'so committed to an ideology that all facts must be twisted to fit it'. Very Happy

Like everyone, I have several hobby horses, but I hope I'm open enough to honestly look at facts and opposing views.

That video strikes me as iconic of the typical Aussie response to that type of situation.  None of this beating around the bush nonsense, just go in and get it done.

It's a sad fact of life that in any large group, "some people" are going to be morons.   For our own mental well being we need to ignore these people as much as possible.

Dog tired dog, hopping mad roo and a zoo keeper who kept his job. As any Australian will tell you, a kangaroo can be an extremely dangerous animal at close quarters.

Ah, thank you!

Looks to me like he responded absolutely appropriately.

And also with restraint. After all, he didn't use his knife.

Luckily it didn't result in him getting injured, thank God.

We used to look to Oz as a bastion of common sense...

However, it seems as plagued by 'PC' attitudes as us in UK

It's a damn shame there wasn't an animal rights nutjob there so he could have belted them for the video instead of the "innocent" kangaroo.

I thought the bob-and-weave footwork was a little odd but then I've not had to fistfight with a marsupial, although I once chased an enraged opossum out of a mango tree.  Laughing

I've seen post-punch reactions like that kangaroo's in a number of saloons on Saturday nights. Classic!

While they are not often a problem, this report from Australia's ABC news site shows some of how dangerous roos can be. Pictures on the TV news showed how serious her injuries are!

Now where's my rifle?
