I recently purchased a 1986 K100 RS.  I owned my last bike 30 years ago.  The K100 is resting in my garage while I await "Collector" plates, which will result in very affordable insurance premiums. The bike appears to be in excellent (low mileage) condition and at this point, the only aspect that appears unusual is a Nico Bakker exhaust.

I am planning on making a café racer from my K100.
The only thing I am not yet sure about is if I want to install an upside-down fork. I really like the looks and I don't mind a challenge.
I am aware of the fact that it's going to be an expensive conversion but I just want to make an estimation before I start, just so I don't get in over my head. 
I've done quite a lot of reading and at this point I've seen conversions with R1, GSXR and ZX7R forks. Almost all of them keeping the wheel that's supposed to be in that fork, but I would like to keep the current one . To make the forks (and calipers, discs, etc) fit, there is probably some machinery to be done for spacers and such, which shouldn't be a problem, but I want to make sure that it's save to make some of these adjustments.

Is there someone who has experience with a conversion like this? Maybe you guys have some do's and don'ts or just some general recommendations.

Can be done, if you know what you are doing.
But if you haven't changed all intake rubber it's not worth doing, the bike must be first serviced and almost new before doing a fork change.

So you advise to finish the whole project and when everything is done, at that point I should consider a fork change?

Nice looking bike Chocolate!  Off topic, but what gas cap is that?  Can you post a link or source? Did you have to do any special mods to the tank or cap to make it work?
