I was wondering if anyone does the same update to the diff and driveshaft in Australia that Bruno in Canada does? The postage to Canada and back would be a fair bit I would think many hundreds of $ Thanks

Sorry blacKbricK, there appears to be no-one who offers the same service.

Which is a shame.

Thanks for your reply blaKey. I haven't pulled mine apart yet but I intend on doing it soon. I saw it on Youtube and it looks like a good idea I think the guys name is Chris Harris, He seems to know what he is on about and swears by Bruno's Fix . I know an old bloke who does a lot of engineering conversions on bikes and I told him about it, so I may see if he is up to the challenge. Would I be correct in assuming everybody uses the Honda Molly 60 paste?

Oh no...a driveshaft lube thread!

Head for the hills!  Shocked   Very Happy

Me? I use Guard Dog moly. But I believe that this company has closed/will close shortly and their products will no longer be available.

Some use a 50:50 mix of Honda moly and a Wurth grease.  Opinions say the Honda stuff is more of a paste and doesn't have the stickiness that a grease does...more of an assembly paste if you will. That's why a grease is mixed with it so it says put.

Some moly grease has a low level of moly...what you want is a very high moly content.

Then there's the Wurth grease.

Please do a search as this subject has been discussed a trillion times lots and lots.

Others will be along shortly with their opinions.

But please remember, they are opinions of what works for them. Take their suggestions on-board to make up your own mind.

Haha! I figured there was different opinions which is great. And it is great that people can agree to disagree, if only every site that you visit on www was the same. Thanks again for your input.

Have a look here at the Moto-bins site.

Do a search for Part No. 55552. Depending on your model of K (there was a change in the number of splines over the years), this may be of use?

Hint...stick your model of K and the year it was made, in your signature. Discrete differences over the years will ensure you are provided with correct information.

If you have a mate who can offer a relatively cheap fix for our collective problem of worn shafts, we will beat a path to your door.  cheers

FWIW:

From what I've heard, Bruno is no longer offering his service due to some health issues.

For those in the US there is still Hansens BMW in Oregon. They are a bit different than Bruno though as they only rebuild the FD splines and expect you to use a new driveshaft.

(I use the 50/50 Honda/Wurth on my splines. I'd use the Guard Dog stuff though if they hadn't gone out of business.)

Okay I'll have a look. I put my bikes on my profile, how do I get it to come up on my signature? I've got a 03/1987 K100RS and the rest are jap bikes. This is the first BMW  I have owned and I can see why people love them so much. I'm hooked on it. Now I want more, maybe a K75 next.

Up at the top of the screen you will see a Profile tab. Click on it.

Then look for a Signature tab. Yep, click on that.

Edit your signature so your info will be attached at the bottom of all your posts.

If you go to Spear and Jackson in Nambour they may be able to reclaim the pinion drive shaft and Motobins in UK sell a weld on section to repair the drive shaft spline.  Spear and Jackson are a very good engineering firm and if they cant do the job then would probably be able to refer you to someone in Brisvegas that can do the job.

Thanks Rick for the info. I'm finding out heaps on this site which is great. I haven't pulled it out yet but I doubt that it has been looked at for a fair time. Cheers. John.

Blackbrick, If you go to the "Your Own Renovation" and check out Transformed again by WAZ on Page 4 about half way down Waz does the weld on for a new spline of the Driveshaft.
Just handy to read mate.
