The rear brake pedal on my K75 isn't obviously damaged but the square foot pad has a definite anti clockwise twist to it so my foot catches the outer edge and bottom right hand corner of the pad on applying the brake. I'm tempted to remove, apply some heat and try and bend it back so the pad is square to the bike. What type of aluminium is it? will it respond to this? if it has been bent and damaged will the Ali. have work hardened?  John

If you bend it back it will probably fracture. If you heat it and cool it quickly it will go soft and then can be straightened however it will then bend easily with the force applied in braking. If you can determine where the bend is then you can bend it back in a different place but they are still a bit prone to fracture. Best outcome is to get a good straight one without any salty corrosion (makes the under side look flaky).

Have a good read of this thread by Moto Smith on Forging aluminium. I used this technique to straighten the rear pedal on my LT about 14,000 miles ago.

If you have access to a potter oven or similar. Heat the part to 500c for 30 minutes, quench in water after removel from the oven and bend it how you want within about an hour. After that time it will start to slowly harden again.

Confused I am! Went on Ebay to look for a replacement and they all seem to exhibit the same trait, the pad is not square to the pivot axis???????

None of them have a straight line from the base to the tip - otherwise they would be pointing outward a bit.

However, one that is bent slightly inward compared to how it came from the factory so that it is not parallel to the bike's direction can be annoying. (I had one before like that.)

Alternatively... a little dressing with a file, dremel or (very carefully) with an angle grinder, might be sufficient just to reshape the pad so that it doesn't catch on your boot ... but not so much that you substantially reduce the size of the pad. Just a thought.
