My bike does not seem to be charging while running and so after 15 mins riding the battery need recharging? I charged it and tested it it was reading 12.6v then dropped down to 12.2v while running and if I rev it the voltage slowly drops? Alternator has sticker with 14v stamped on the side but test that seperately while running and only producing 12v exactly, is it stuffed?? Any ideas? Thanks. Smile

more likely the regulator on the back of the alternator brushes have had it ...lost length

you should be able to get a new regulator for not many dollars ....question though did the battery light glow whilst running ? 
could also be a blown globe >?

The battery light flashes while running. It does not flash after fully charged with battery charger but loses charge while running.

you would have to remove it to test the brush length and connections ....note there is a contact spring metal loaded that is the main contact for the field windings ...if this is corroded .dirty ...you may get no charge happening also ...

in any case remove the regulator and check all the terminations before proceeding ...but my best guess from experience is that one of the brushes will be too short to work properly ....seen many times by many of us here on the forum


try using the search feature .....you will find many examples of regulator issues and replacement procedures

This regulator available from EME Add postage to AU.
Voltage regulator from Motorworks part No ELA59286. Postage to AU will be cheaper than EME.
Motorworks delivery to AU will be inside a week

The K1100 changed to a 50A alternator with the 1994 model and the regulator is different from the K100 32A alternator

On the K1100LT the alternator was changed from 32A to 50A on the -93 year model.
The K1100RS did have the 50A from the very beginning (-93)....production start early -92.

And yes....the 32A and the 50A using different regulators.

I was going on my 01/1993 model which had a 32A.
