Hey everyone! Name's Brian.
I am quitting my job and trying to travel as much as I can. I am flying into Auckland, New Zealand on August 22nd. I saw that on the forum that there are places to buy and or rent bikes, since I will be backpacking everywhere, any way that I can save some moolah would be awesome. I figured that transportation via motorcycle may be my best option. So here I am. Traveling the world, building some character, and meeting amazing people along the way. If you guys have any pointers for cheap traveling, my ears are wide open!
Help a brotha out! Smile

Welcome to the forum  Bstryker.
If you are traveling the world, you may get a job traveling with the Skroll to have forum members signing it.
As you are bikeless, you may not get K technical advises from us but just meet incredible friendly people.
When I was a young man, at the age of 22 I sold my business and did exactly the same thing. After traveling for few years in Africa, South and North America, I finally hanged my back pack in Canada.
This was many moons ago and I still don't have any regrets of what I did.

This forum has members from all over the world and we enjoy the friendship that we have built over the years. Not having a bike is not a problem, but having the right attitude is what count to be part of this group.
Cheers,

Bert

Hi Brian welcome to our Knuthaus. Once you are in NZ Australia is only a cheap air fare away and well worth the visit.

Thanks Bert! That is really inspirational and I am excited to get on my way! What is the "Skroll"? I would love to meet people everywhere since New Zealand will not be my only pit stop, but I plan on it being my "traveling home base", if you may. I feel like my heart is in the right place and positive attitude is my middle name!

If you are coming to Oz, it would help to have a 12 month working visa.  Alternatively you will need to have a return/onwards airline ticket and more than a few dollars in your pocket.  Otherwise you can be turned around at the border.

Lots of backpackers in Oz picking fruit and other odd jobs on a working holiday.  Everyone needs a gap year. Beer drinker

But ya heading to New Zealand first. Enjoy your time here and spend the last of the winter in the top of the North Island (winterless north, relatively speaking) before making your way south into the summer. You really need to sort a bike here as the roads are awesome, in particular the South Island, and a good used K100 will set you back around 3 grand NZD. Unfortunately bikes are a bit more expensive here but that's the way it is. Have a look on www.trademe.co.nz for bikes and anything else you might need. Kiwi's number 1 place to buy and sell.
Let me know if I can help in any way
