Here is the blueprint to make your own clutch centering tool.

Here is another solution sent by Michel Berland (from a French BMW forum).
He's using a 7/16 deep socket and had drilled the driver (square hole) to accommodate the passage of the push rod.

I used the top drawing and had one machined up at workshops out of Brass worked a treat when I changed the clutch.

In the H___ Workshop Manual I found the following differences:


The 18 mm diameter is 11 mm in length not 12 mm


The next beveled section is 9 mm in length not 10 mm


The 7 mm diameter is
6 mm in length not 5 mm


The final 6 mm diameter is 31 mm not 30 mm


The total insertion length remains the same. Was this done
out of poetic license and so as to not annoy the H group?

Hi, I prefer the Paper Mate solution, is cheaper, multitasking (use it to mark parts) and result is the same.

I am using the tool as described on the first post for the last 15 years and never experienced any problem.
The taper size is to ease the insertion of the tool and the length is not important (.....).
