I had a very sub-optimal fuel line hemorrhage and I thought I would do a refurb of the exterior fuel lines as well as the manifold and up.  The fuel system was emptied and now, with it all back together, the bike isn't firing up.  The engine turns over and will "run" with starting fluid.  I can hear the fuel pump working (but it does sound a bit sluggish).  Before I start looking into the tank items, I'm wondering if anyone has any idea or experience with refilling and repressurizing the system.  When the system is emptied, how long does it take with normal "push the button" starting to refill and repressurize the system?  Just a minute?  A few tries?  Or does it take "a long dang time and you'll think you're going to have to look into the tank items because something is wrong, but it will work."  (That last one is where I'm at now...)  I've tried to start the bike and I don't want to damage the starter by continuing to try.  The battery is fully charged.  The last step is to pull the internals, replace the filter and check the pump.  Before I do that, I was hoping to tap the experience here.  Thanks for any an all advice.

Shouldn't take too much. A few tries.

Top off your battery with a charge first so you don't fry the starter relay.

Check you haven't put the fuel lines on the wrong way round. If you're sitting on the bike, the line on the front of the fuel rail goes to the rear spigot on the fuel tank. If you're looking at the bike from the left (fuel rail) side, the line on left side of the fuel rail goes to the right hand spigot on the fuel tank.

Thanks for the replies.

The battery is fully charged and currently on a battery tender.

The mixed up lines is a great place to start, but unfortunately(?) they're on correctly.  Looking at the bike from the fuel rail side, front of the fuel rail to the rear spigot.  From the fuel pressure regulator (top hose) to the front spigot.

If it should just take a few tries, it sounds like I'm going to be digging into the fuel tank items.  I'll pull the fuel pump and change the filter.  I'm actually running the mustang fuel pump in there and have been for many years... it may need a lift, clean, replace.

Thanks for the assist.  Any other suggestions would be welcomed.

Did you check to see if any bits from the previous hose are inhabiting the fuel rail or FPR. The pump, from your description, seems to be pumping into a blockage

The fuel rail was cleaned, I didn't check the FPR.  I have a feeling the fuel filter is gummed up.  I have a spare fuel filter and will stick that in there when I do a cleaning on the fuel pump. I didn't notice any bits floating about but it's never just one problem with my stuff.  There's always something extra hiding in the shadows... Thank you again for your reply.

I put mine all back together on the weekend, and I was at the stage where I thought I was going to have to roll start it down the hill, when it started and has been fine ever since. I changed all the fuel lines, so it must have just taken a while to pressure up.

Easy test: Undo the bottom of the fuel line that goes from the tank to the fuel rail. Put a bucket under it. Hit the start button to see if any fuel comes out.

(Avoid open flames while conducting this procedure.)

So how long did it take to get it going?  I've been trying sparingly because I don't want to burn up my starter or weld the relay ... I'm going to try it a few more times and then wade headlong into the gas tank bits.  Thanks for the reply!

Thanks duck.  I'll give that a try.  I just put oetiker clamps on there but I believe I've got a few extra.

It flattened the battery and I had to use a jump pack.

Ditch the Oetiker clamps. I get rid of them on all of my Ks.

Just wanted to update this thread with a final entry.  After removing/checking reinstalling the (mustang) fuel pump.  Replacing the fuel filter.  Checking flow at the rail.  All normal.  In my case the no start condition turned out to be my fuel injector harness connection under the tank.  I had an issue with that connector before, where the connector looked fine but was separated slightly and created a run/no run condition that was very difficult to track down.  Once the connector was secured the bike started right up.

Thanks for the assistance y'all

Excellent outcome. Nothing like the pleasure of a first ride after getting a job like that completed.

I was at mine at weekend, had to replace the fuel line from the fuel pressure regulator [FPR] to the rear of the fuel rail. Have had quite a few tank off no start events that I think it has to become a habit of open and remake all the connections when you are in there like that. I also slightly closed up the female connectors in the fuel pump tank plug. But I still managed to get the no start after I didn't put that one back properly. Once it was back correctly it did fire first attempt so doesn't take long to get fuel flow back up to pressure.
