I have a couple of 6 LED dual intensity lights (3 wires) I intend to mount next to the license plate on my '85 K100.

I am nowhere near being a circuit engineer - give me a wiring diagram and I can figure things out...

What I don't know is exactly how to wire them in...

As a stereo buff I am familiar with what happens when you wire speakers in series and parallel, and what happens to resistance if you don't take the resistance of the speakers into consideration in regards to what loads the amplifier can deliver to.

I TOLD you I am not an electrical guru- and I am explaining my concerns in terms that I know.

With the small gauge wires coming from/leading to the LED's I'm not so sure I want to try wiring in series, but am afraid that wiring in parallel will cause issues.

Should I go parallel with a resistor on each wire for the brake and running lights or possibly just a resistor on the single ground wire on each?

This info might actually help someone else that wants to add to and not just replace the stock ltail/brake light.

Will someone take pity on someone that wants to do it right the first time?

Parallel. No resistor if they are 12V LEDs.

at first thought ...as duck says above ...in parallel

might have helped if you had a pic brad

but generally "automotive use" they will be for 12 volts and already current limited to match the typical voltage feed

you may have to experiment ...swap the leads to obtain the right connection  for the dual brightness types

No problems with parallel. The BMU will still continue to monitor the tail light and if it goes pop, the LEDs will stay on. Another layer of safety, if you like.
