Good work, Nino!
On the picture it looks like you got the first generation fuel cap (with pushbutton).
It might be a idea to look for a later version, as the one you got did have problem with water ingress.

Thanks Inge. Yes, thats first generation of tap. I have next generation, but didnt switch to because of the original key. Dont have any problem with water still.

Here is a "how to" switch your lock barrels, I`ll guess the internals is a bit different in your old model cap.nino wrote:I have next generation, but didnt switch to because of the original key.

Thanks Nino.
This small modification is great and it uses the fundamental of the electric windshield.
Air is flowing on both sides of the extension and the pressure is equalized. On the top of deflecting the wind, it should remove most of the buffering in the helmet.

With my 178 cm, I have no such problems. Back in 2003, when I just bought my bike, I installed the "Secdem" raised screen (source: www.motobins.co.uk). Unfortunately, it broke while bike was being transported from the Netherlands, so I replaced it with K 100 RT screen - couldn't get LT's. After a few hundred kms in quite a rainy and windy weather, I feel no need for getting again the raised one or, for that matter, even LT's...

Thanks, I know about Siebenrock (from them I got the 1000 ccm cylinder increase kit to increase my former R 80's), and I have no problem communicating in German, but their web site doesn't give the prices. http://www.bmwbayer.de/ gives 189 € for TK 50 topcase (with VAT; export price 159), but I would rather go for one of the all-black slightly smaller models from Hepco & Becker Junior range, 30, 40 or even 45 litres. Needs not to hold TWO helmets, just one is enough (my Nolan N 100 can't fit in either of the panniers), BMW's K 1100 topcase is simply ugly, and this from 50 litres looks disproportionately big to me.

What interests me - how do you install it on the bike? What happens with the original BMW's luggage rack, do you keep it or have to install another one? I saw some by Hepco & Becker which are much better suited for other sorts of luggage (tents etc) - see http://www.motorworks.co.uk/vlive/Shop/Parts.php?T=6&Q=%20LUA00053

Has anyone found an MRA deflector that will mount on a K100RS stock windshield and reduce the buffeting/wind noise? The OEM deflector does not seem effective.

I appreciate the input and have looked at all alternatives.
1. The Secdem from Moto-Bins is 46 cm high and requires drilling the fairing which I do not fancy. Price is 84 pds or 156 Canadian dollars plus shipping.
2. On the WEMA-IMORT site the Secdem is 49 cm high and is 123 Euros or 181 Canadian dollars plus shipping. I assume drilling is required.
3. On the Sedem site they list a 49 cm high screen with many different colours available and for a few dollars more you can have the screen height cut down from the 49 cm standard height. Cost is 130 Euros or 191 Canadian dollars. I assume drilling is required.
4. On the Motorworks site the screen is only 43.18 cm high. However I am not sure I like how it looks. It is only 47.66 pounds or 88.43 Canadian dollars plus shipping. Rosskko asked if anyone has used one and I would like to have their comments as well.
5. Finally I have looked at the Laminar Lip product and testimonials and think I may try one of these first. They are 84 US or 108 Canadian dollars plus shipping.
I am trying to eliminate the noise and buffeting when I am seated properly on the K100RS. If I tuck down behind the windscreen, I only hear the nice sound of the engine. When I stand up on the foot pegs I only hear the quiet stream of air moving around my helmet.
Thanks

Shep,
Alby, who frequents the site, made a new screen for his RS from the back of a PVC chair. Not sure if through necessity or experimentation, but they are a big lump of plastic and can probably be found on the side of the road making them cheap to play with.

Well I ordered a Laminar Lip today for 84 dollars US or approximately 108 Canadian dollars plus the dumb postage at 37 US or 47 Canadian dollars.
If I was close to the US border I could do what many do and have it shipped to an outlet at the American border and then go pick it up. Since I am 800 kms from the border this does not make any sense.
Oh well I hope this reduces the turbulence/buffeting for me?

Did you remove the OEM wind deflector?
I asked the Laminar Lip folk and their reply was "removal of the present deflector is optional".
I would think you would remove it, wouldn't you?

Shep!
Keep the updates coming as I'm experiencing the exact same issues as you are with my RS and am very interested in the results. I was toying with the idea of getting an Aeroflow shield but that's about $400. Yikes.
Doing a weekend trip from the Island up to Whistler, Lillooet, Cache Creek and return starting in a few hours. Perfect time for an Aeroflow....

I left the original deflector under my Laminar Lip and at times it makes a difference to adjust it for increased air flow in slower speeds and hotter weather. It fits as intended beneath the LL. At 175cm/5'9" the LL does the job for me. Nothing will reduce all wind noise, there's no panacea, as there are so many variables like helmet quality, whether you wear earplugs, your seated height behind the 'screen, and lastly but not leastly, your tolerance level.
As an additional bit of info, about three and a half years ago I offered my new-in-the-packet LL on the forum for sale for a mere US$40. No one bit, so I fit it to my bike and am very happy I kept it. Here's another thread about this very topic.

I will leave the original deflector on as per TWB.
The lip should be here in a couple of days and I will install and test it this coming week.
nvboy: I have only ridden the route once but it is a wonderful ride up to Lillooet and across to Cache Creek via Whistler. Lots of Twisties.
