And you will need the C upper brake line, as the S will be too short.  scratch  DAMHIK

You may or may not need another brake line.  On some models you can use the old line if you loosen the banjo bolt to the front master cylinder and change the angle that the brake line comes out of it.

Thanks for the replies. RT bars are fitted to the old 75 and a longer brake line was needed but made do with the original clutch cable. The RT bars look ungainly hence the C bars idea at Gaz80's suggestion. The trick is finding one. Cheers Tom

Was there today charlie. No C bars unfortunately.

Would it be possible to modify the RT bars Tom? Make a jig. Cut and reweld? I have an old set of RT bars you could try it out on.

Flanders in California makes 22mm handlebars. I've looked through what they have and nothing exactly matches C bars but you could probably find something better than RT/LT bars.

Some sites claim that 7/8" are the same as the 22mm BMW bars but they are not. The difference is slight but the tolerances on the clutch and throttle perches are very tight and will not fit on the ever so slightly larger 7/8" bars.

I once parted a bike that had some 7/8" Renthal bars. I have no idea how the prior owner who did it got the perches to fit.

Tom I have a set of 22mm bars here from an R80 or 75 that TWB gave me some time ago but they have a twist from when he went a gutza. I will have a play tomorrow and see what I can do with them.

Rick G, that's a good idea about the boxer bars. Tom mentioned about boxer bars being an option for him when we were having the conversation about comfort on the various K models.

Hey Charlie, if your C Bars are not mounted to a bike at the moment they would not be hard for you to measure and that would give Tom some info to compare other options that may be very close to the C type.

I found this drawing on the BMW Bayer site that they use to illustrate the dimensions of a range of factory and non factory bars that they sell. Looks like a useful method to me. Obviously the drawing is indicative as the 'b' & 'd' dimension difference is not 22mm in the example however by taking those two measurements it will give the "droop" from the top bend to the end.

You can thank me later for the homework Charlie.

Cheers

Thank you all for the replies. Rick, thanks for having a play around with those bars but only if you have nothing better to do. Duck, your post was spot on. 22mm is slightly different to 3/8" and the clutch and brake pods won't fit. The tolerances are tight even with a coat or two of rattlecan paint they will not go on.
Just out of interest, I measured the bars on  the 91 R100R and they are closer to RT/LT bars than the C bars.
Charlie, if you ever lose sight of that project using the C bars, let me know. Cheers Tom

Well bad news here Mr Tom as soon as I started heaving on them to get the twist out they cracked on a stress line from the original bend so I fed them to the scrap metal bin.
The big problem with making bars is that the really tight bends required aren't possible with the run of the mill tube benders.
