Dunno if it is the best topic describing the issue but i'll try my best to explain it here. I've stumbled upon this great community and have presented myself : https://www.k100-forum.com/t11150-new-member-in-sweden

Hopefully someone can help with this small issue

So im making a cafe conversion of my K100 and the frame was dissasembled for repainting a while ago. I've reinstalled the frame and the bike is almost done. I connected the original speedometer (breadbox) since i could only start the bike with the clutch hold in to see if the neutral light on the original speedometer would get lit.

That was not the case, the neutral light on the original speedometer only gets lit when i tilt the gas tank backwards (probably the 4L reserve fuel sensor) and its only when the gas tank is tilted backwards i dont need to hold the clutch to start the bike.

My guess is that something somewhere is not connected correctly, where it is i dont know, all of my other lights work (turn signals, rearlight, headlight etc). I've tried to locate the problem with no success, still the same error.

I bought a BEP 2.0 and going to also buy a control light unit from daytona, would be nice to be able to use all of the 5 lights on the control unit. It is not the biggest issue in the world, the bike runs eitherway but it would be nice to have a working neutral light and a 4L reserve fuel indicator instead of having a neutral light that gets lit when the gas tank is on the reserve.

My understanding is that to start the bike you need either the neutral light on or else hold in the clutch lever. The neutral light is controlled by the gear position indicator[GPI] switch in behind the swing arm which sometimes fails [mine has so have no neutral light and I have to pull in clutch to start the engine].

I cant answer on where to look but it is correct the neutral light on means you do not need to pull the clutch to start the bike.

I am wondering if when you tilt the gas tank backwards does it show there is a loose connection in the wire from the GPI switch where it connects to the loom under the tank? Since you seem to have the electrics well sorted that might be your problem. Some of those wires do not have much slack and you need to be very careful with the connections to make sure they are fully home and clipped.

Yes it seems to be correct, have been searching around and if the neutral light is not lit one needs to hold in the clutch to start the bike. That is one of the reasons why i bought the BEP 2.0, to go around this issue when installing a third manufacturer speedometer

I like your input and i will check it out next time im in the garage (will be next week probably, maybe sooner). I searched around to get an understanding on how the GPI Switch looks on a K100, but found various pictures so its a bit confusing to know what i will be looking after. Would be grateful if you could provide a link on how it looks.

Electronics and wires is not my strongest department, somehow i've managed to this point but now im stuck and all help is appreciated.

Anyone who can help me clarify how the GPI switch looks, i understand that is in behind the swingarm and i will look at it next week. Any more helpful information about the GPI switch would be useful, does it looks vary from model to model?

The switch is the same on all models of Classic-K's.

edit : So i've been reading a few threads regarding the GPI and Neutral light, looks like i have to remove the swing to be able to see the GPI, is that correct?

Okay, this seems to be a lot of work just to get a Neutral light to be working correctly, are there any more negative sides to have a GPI which is not working 100% correctly, will i be experiencing some other issues in the future with my bike or is this GPI just for showing gears and a neutral light on a speedometer/gear indicator.

Found some tutorials on how to remove the swing, i believe its manageable but to just get a light to work correctly it doesnt feel like its worth the effort, thats why im asking if there are any other downsides.

Seems like many members of this community just learn to live with this small error. As always the opinion of you guys is much appreciated.

My GPI is not working correctly and I have no neutral light. The bike is fine and starting is fine but only with clutch pulled in, even in neutral. I always do that anyway as it reduces drag on the starter so it has made no difference to me. I will sort it next time the swing arm is off as I cant see it being worth the effort just now.

Guess i'll just leave it as it is since it wont be affecting the rest of the bike. Thank you for the input!
