Has anyone successfully reached / changed the flexible brake pipe that goes from the front master cyl reservoir to the ABS metal pipe -- the ABS end seems impossible to access ? I have all the fairing off (obviously), and have tried accessing it with the rad off, but it makes no difference ?

Hi - easiest way I have found is to remove petrol tank then Ignition unit under the headstock, then move the wiring harness sideways away from the offside central spine of the frame. There should then be enough room to get a spanner at the pipe and remove it.
Suggest a Venhill Powerhose Plus or similar as their fittings only have to be nipped up.
PS you cannot get to it from below as there is a shield between the outer frame legs.

K1100s don't have an ignition control unit.  Everything is in the Motronic. 

I haven't done my LT but I did put stainless lines on my K1100RS. As mentioned, the first step is to get the tank out of the way.

I replaced all of the flexible brake lines on my K1100LT a number of years ago with a set of stainless braided lines from HEL Performance.

As Duck says the tank most definitely has to be off and I think I had the fairing off as well (long time ago). One of the key ingredients in the exercise was "patience" as the join that you are talking about was a real challenge. I believe I used standard tools but I think if you had one of these ring spanners with a slotted end it might be very useful.

Also, the ABS fittings, like some other brake parts, use off-sized box wrenches. 11 and 14mm if memory serves.

(If you're not a wrenching purist you can get away with using a couple of crescent wrenches.)

Often known as a flare nut spanner.

I wouldn't use anything else on a brake connector - flexible or rigid pipe, especially on older machinery. Over the years I've had to deal with many burred nuts that someone else has used an open end or adjustable spanner on previously.

If you don't have one the right size, buy it. It will pay off.
