While at the Far Cairn Rally, I suggested we plan a ride through the Snowy Mountains. The Krew thought it was a good idea.

Someone suggested that Feb or Mar 2016 might be a good time.

What do people think? If there is interest, we'll get more specific later.

Cheers,

Bill

Always great riding up there Bill, and definitely more comfortable in the warmer months.

Barring unexpected issues I would be a starter.

Cheers

Its usually good up till around Easter (late March next year).  I'm interested but will have to see if someone employs me and that gets in the way at all.

Interested but uncommitted.

As I tend to go skiing there every year, I keep saying I would like to have a look in the summer.  Just to get it into perspective.

I have a vague memory of driving through there as kid going from Geelong to Newcastle for Christmas holidays with my folks.

As we'll be back in OZ for the entire month of Feb next year that gets my vote. I'd love to give the K a good run through the mountains that time of the year and it'd be grand to catch up with old mates and make a few new.

I was thinking perhaps March, but this is a very strong reason to go for February.  Very Happy

"I want to see all that back country from Kiandra to Khancoban" (Charlie99)
Its a long time since I've been through the area in a comprehensive way. I'd be happy to take suggestions, and given that some of us have achieved (as some kind person on the forum put it,) Geezer status - i.e. retired, we could do some before/after a weekend, with other bits during the weekend for those still in wage slave status.

Bear in mind also that my son is based in Cooma and with a job and work contacts that cover the Snowy Hydro system, so up-to-date local knowledge won't be a problem.
Whether that might translate into privileged access to anything, I haven't asked, but worth a try if people are interested.

Cheers,

Bill

Good point, Ed.
12 - 14 Feb it isn't. Do those from far flung places (remembering NSW is the centre of the universe Snowy Mountains 2016 44271) think the following weekend 20 - 21 Feb might be a good time to pencil it in?

A bit of background communication has happened, and the date is confirmed as the weekend of 20-21 February.

While I could probably prevail on my son to open his front paddock on the edge of Cooma to the camping Krew, unlike the kind smithy up north, there is no house yet. One small dam and probably a hire toilet trailer would be the facilities.

There are caravan parks in Cooma and Jindabyne on the lake. If I can organise an area for joint camping for the wild motorcyclists, is there a preference among the Krew?

BTW, I was called a hells Angel by a friend yesterday. How insulting! Not a Harley in sight, just me on BOB.

That would indeed be a nice one but my foreign travels are already booked up next year by my eldest daughter.......she would kill me if I pulled out of her wedding. Anyway there are fiendish plans in my father of the bride speech to wreak revenge for 30 years of upbringing.......She knows I will do it too, nice have the respect of your kids!.

I think Rossko is due up here too next Spring, at that time of year one needs a few of us on the Weather stone. You saw the benefit of that too.....

I understand, Olaf. Had a similar problem earlier this year when son planned a wedding and daughter planned giving birth within 4 days of each other. Made the wedding, and at least was in the same continent for the birth, and saw mum & Bub later that day.

Both great events, and the bonus being close enough to visit the eccentrics for the weekend.

I'm purchasing airline tickets today and will be arriving Brissie 1 Feb, departing 29 Feb (leap year!). We'll be riding south to Clunes Victoria to visit dear old mum so this fits perfectly for either the ride there or home.

Camping is ok for us, too.

Good one Al you will love it. Finish work and no thinking about it till start next day or Monday.
Watch out for the dogs especially the small ones they dont give any warning bark and don't forget to wear your leather chaps.

Rosskko you just passed up the opportunity of stacking two people in your tent up here last weekend. It would have been a good practise run for a two up ride through the Snowies.

Cheers

Lots of nice places in the Snowy area to take your wife for a birthday weekend away, with a bit of fellowship with the K krew as a bonus.  Smile

gotta get the sKroll to this one . Khankoban , KosciuszKo , Kiandra , the place is krawling with K's, or will be.
Bill , I'd like to take on an assault of the Kosciuszko Lookout via Charlottes Pass with the sKroll  .
Not sure what time off work I can get, hoping for at least Sat- Sun which means an early on the road departure from Newey on Saturday morning, possibly around 2am , make the most of the cooler morning temps. Should be passing through Sydney around 3.30- 4am.
Depending on others as to whether I go via Waz's , or straight down the Hume to the Capital.

A stopover on Kapital Hill is a must for the sKroll as well , at the old parliament house in Kanberra, taking our kause to the kriminals. mind you , displaying propaganda could get us locked up .

this trip would be a great chance for our southern krew to meet up and make their mark on the forum sKroll as well.

We'll have to plan the ride route accordingly. Though Kosciuszko (spelling officially changed some years back to match the proper spelling of the Polish guys name) requires walking. No problem in itself, but time consuming.

Amusing aside: a Cooma tourism officer over 30 years ago wanted to bulldoze the top to make 500 car parking spaces. He was very persistent until someone did the maths and geography to calculate that if it was done, it would no longer be the highest mountain in Oz!

sorry Bill , was me . Definitely plans to be made . I just can't resist the challenge and  take the sKroll to the highest peak to Konquer Kozzie. or part thereof.
Not able to get the extra time off , so it will be a one nighter for me on Saturday night only. I will pack the tent , sleeping bag , and blowup , the experience will be worth it no matter what . and no , I'm not sharing my blow up.......
just a few of the lokations on my way to Mt Kosciuszko, here goes, Killingworth, Kangy Angy, Kariong , Mt Kuringai , Mt Keira, Koonawarra ( Waz's home town),Kiama, Kangaroo Valley( RT's territory), Khancoban and Kosciuszko,   how many K's will you see?

hoping to collect a few extras on the way down .
Anyone else heading down on Saturday?

Thinking about pencilling this one into the Kalender for next year.

As an alternative to riding in the rain in Europe next year the Australian Alpes would be a good choice.  I go skiing at Perisher each year and have always wanted to spend some time there during the summer and what better way than on a K.  If I mix it with Karuah, it could work out to be a worthwhile trip.

Still pissed at missing Smithies do for the last couple of years, so I need to get out.

fantastic AB , join us for Koffee and sKones on the mountain. Snowy Mountains 2016 212902
Due to the limitations on time and vehicular access , I might even pack some mountain bikes in the Kart for an assault on the summit with the sKroll.
