Absolutely, it's a public camping area and they won't even charge you for the privilege Rick(they do charge the club per head for the rally as we book the site).  Marie and I have stayed their away from the rally on numerous occasions.  Take your swimmers etc and take advantage of the waterholes.

If you want to do a little exploring while traveling south at a gentle pace there are many options too.  Try the road to Goulburn via Oberon, you can camp at the Abercrombie River (Oberon last stop for supplies).  If you dont mind a little dirt on your travels, camp at Wee Jasper (Billy Grace Reserve has showers if that's getting attractive by then) also grass, shade and a decent river (ice at wee jasper but yass for supplies.  Some dirt on the way to Tumut to continue your route south.  Mid week should be quiet too.

Hi all,

After some difficult negotiations (have another beer, son), I've managed to arrange the delivery of my boat and a tow vehicle for launching to Jindabyne Holiday Park on the Friday afternoon, and collection on Sunday afternoon.

Depending on interests, there can be lake sightseeing, water ski, wakeboard, kneeboard, tube, walk the plank or other nautical activities.

Let me know if any of the above appeal so I can bring the equipment.

With our projected numbers, I've added another site to the booking, so if you follow the earlier link to the park site and find the map, we are on sites 75 to 80 inclusive.

Our site, between the boat and the silver tent, kerb to fence.

Camp kitchen inside. Other BBQs in the park also - see map.

Inside 2.

The red cast is due to the heaters being on. From the high 30s the previous day to low teens and rain when the photo was taken!

Underlines the need to have warm clothing available just in case, even in the summer months in the high country.

Sweet.  Been ages since I water skied, 'though still on two skis.  Will I need my wetsuit to keep warm?

TacKler, a fishing website says that water temp is about 20C at the surface at the moment. Probably a bit warmer in a month.
Queenslanders might find these temps a bit daunting, some locals will think it balmy.

The trick is to stay above the water!  Wink

One pair of skis on the equipment list.

I may be tempted in for a ski but I'llhave to see on the day if I have the energy after 2 days on the road. Walk The Plank sounds like fun. Maybe I'll give that a go instead.... I guess I could hold a beer at the same time :pirat:

Good work Bill. Top spot and awesome Kookhouse. We gotta fire that pizza oven up.
Cheers

Ed, I might have to wait a couple of years for that adventure, but would love to be there.
sunny

Apparently it takes about 14 weeks to ship a bike to Oz - not that that I've been looking(!) - quicker by air, but hate to think how much that would cost. Wonder how long it would take to ride there? - few dodgy countries in the way though.

Hope you all have a fantastic gathering. Well envious.

I was supposed to be coming over to Sydney for a week in April (for a works meeting)...but a departmental re-organisation at the same time now looks like it has put the kibosh on that plan. Crying or Very sad

Olaf - beers chillin' on the door step, nice idea...but mulled wine warms the cockles better.

Apparently it takes about 14 weeks to ship a bike to Oz - not that that I've been looking(!) - with Kpox in full bloom , there is no shortage of K's here in Oz , just bring yourself . if you hide in Rosskos luggage for the return trip, the excess baggage fee would be the cheaper option.

BAE, a spare K awaits you in Goulburn when you arrive. Whenever that is.

A boat behind the K might be interesting! Perhaps Rick G can try hooking it up to the K1100 while we are there, since my K100 doesn't have a tow bar.

Kaptain, the walk is a long walk on a short plank. dress appropriately! Lifejackets supplied.

Re the boat, my son is very helpful. He'll take it to Cooma early in the week on his way past here, and he and his wife are going to Thredbo for the weekend. He'll drop it off at the campsite on the way, along with the Hi-Lux to launch and retrieve with, and collect it on his way home Sunday arvo.

I'm not sure of my travel movements yet. I want to make sure a few breakfast supplies are available, but haven't worked the details of that out yet. Hopefully, the son can help out with that as well.

Re breakfast, any special requests/suggestions to have available? I'm thinking cereal, toast, bacon, eggs will be high on the desired list, but open to additions/alternatives. I'll organise some tea and coffee to be available. BYO eating irons, cup, plates etc.

Bill

I was once unfortunate enough to spend three months living in Blackpool during winter.  Blizzard   The hotel was overlooking the water and as the bus pulled up outside, you could always spot the rooms occupied by us Aussies.  We kept the beer on the windowsill outside.  Just to keep a chill on it.

Well, Bill & Tom the facilities look great and the campsite view is to die for, really looking forward to great weekend. Not much of a fisherman or skier but will give it a go, great effort on getting the boat there Bill.
I hope the weather stay's cooler rather than the warmer, for us Guyra folks no jumper required.
Ed I think we could have a pizza night, if you have room in the trailer for a large bowl and some bakers flour to make the base's we could get some ingredients for toppings along the way.

Smithy, I'll have some transport space in the boat for pizza equipment, and anything perishable I can store or arrange.
The boat will go to Cooma on the previous Monday, so I'll need a list in advance of that. Jim can store things in his fridge and put them in the camp kitchen fridge when he delivers the boat.

Bill, you've obviously not made too many pizzas. Bakers flour has a higher protein content which makes it stronger and more suitable for baking with yeast as in bread making. It also come in different grades.

Smithy, if you need a hand with preparation let me know.

Bill, does the park supply wood for the oven? Otherwise we may need to bring our own. I doubt there would be anything suitable within a cooee.

Cheers

Hey Bill , Nigel is correct, bakers flour normally runs at 13% and higher protein content (Gluten) needed to give the dough structure, weaker flour is normally used for short pastry, cakes ect:
It could be a Krew effort Nigel, just depends on how many beers are consumed   Beer drinker

Anyone live near Ermington in Sydney who could pick up a KLR650 tank for me. I'd strap it on to my K100 on the way back from the Snowies trip somehow. Ebay purchase but the seller is saying pickup only. PIA as I dont live anywhere near Sydney.

Thanks for that, smithy.

The question is largely academic to me, since for the sake of everyone's health and digestion I should stay away from helping out on this one. I do like to understand whats happening around me, though.

While you'd always be welcome, Rossko, that was pretty much what I was expecting, despite tongue-in-cheek comments from me and other people. Hope you have a great family time.

Looking forward to catching up again sometime.

As the idea of traveling down all those M roads appalls me, I was thinking of leaving on Friday morning and going down the Putty and through Mount Victoria and towards Taralga, Goulburn, possibly over-nighting at Tumut caravan park. Something like that, not set in stone just yet,. If anyone else can cope with being in company with a Triumph, let me know. :-) :pirat:

I cannot ride with you and be seen with a Triumph.

Actually not that, but working Friday riding a Honda on a footpath so I can't leave that early, but you have my interest at Tumut Caravan Park on Friday night.  I've been thinking of heading out Friday afternoon after work but don't want to risk the wildlife heading into Jindabyne at night.  I can slab it south after work and stop at Tumut and it won't be stupidly late.

For those of you who like a tipple, on the Alpine Way between Jindabyne and Thredbo there is the Wild Brumby Restaurant at Crackenback.  A small restaurant/café with their own distillery.  You will need to book a table for the weekend but they do take away coffee as well.  The best part though is the tastings available of their schnapps.  Snowy Mountains 2016 - Page 3 22936  wildbrumby.com

For those travelling via the New England Hwy, I was recently put onto a place called Dobson's Distillery at Kentucky.  Off the Hwy south of Armidale and before Uralla.  Does whisk(e)y, Gin, etc and apparently the owner is a bit of a "out there" and had something to do with the Mad Max films.  Sounds like a damn fine place to visit!

Dave , Wild Brumby looks alright , hope you get a chance to fit it in during the weekend . I stopped in on a similar set up near New Norfolk in Tassie last year . They were also selling schnapps , brought some home with me. nice stuff.

I've been to the Wild Brumby with my son. Interesting setup. All the distilling is done on site in the same room that the tasting and sales.
Nice schnapps, too, in multiple varieties.

Smithy , I'm not sure if Jindabyne Woolies has that flour on the shelf , so I'll get some for you from here,
I've got bowls and 3 pizza trays. I can possibly bring a paddle and cutter as well.
be sure to bring your stick with you.

My oversized checked bag is nearly packed, crammer jammed full of K bike spares: 16V shims for Rick G, an RS fairing mount without broken horn tabs, RH inner pannier where mine rubbed on the tire and wore a hole through, an unmolested 8V rocker cover for my RS, underseat trays, filters, tools and things generally harder to come by Down Undah - I may even be able to squeeze a Michie Pilot Road 3 front in there! It's a good thing Hawaiin Airlines allows about 32 kilos without additional charge. Laughing

I've got one more day at work and if anyone really needs something smallish and unobtanium in OZ that I have in stock at the shop lemme know over the next eight hours and I'll drag it aboard.

I'm on de' plane Mondee morning, early. Round here there's been months of rain. I'm over it. Oh, for some OZ sun on my lilly whites.   :pale:

Catch ya's in the Snowies. Cool

Yeah, it's gunna be good to see a few old(er) faces and meet a few new.

I've just pulled the RS out of the shed in Beenleigh, dropped a new, yellow Motobatt MB51814 into it (at $120, only five more than two and a half years ago!) and she cranked twice, fired and settled into a quiet idle. I aired the tyres, sniffed the petrol (Sta-bil went in concentrated 17 months ago) and rode away. Must be a K bike...
