Does the ECU get its grounding through the main wiring connection or through the mounting of the ECU?

The ECU is rubber mounted. It's 3 x 1,5mm2 ground wires between the battery and the ECU connector, and a 0,75mm wire between the ECU housing (RMF shield) and the battery.

Pin #13 on the FICU (ecu) plug. Take a look at the info on the trouble shooting link off the Portal tab

Thanks for the info on the ecu and the suggestion of checking the voltage. I will check this out on Thursday and get back with the results.
I would like to bring everyone up to date as to why I have these questions to start with. I have inherited this bike and it was missing the ECU when I got it. I found a used one on line and when I tried to start the bike found out that I'm not getting power to the fuel pump. The battery support bracket is missing also, so I'm not sure as to how the ECU was mounted on the bike. This is my first BMW, Ive worked on older Yamahas and Suzukies they are a lot simpler. But I'm up for the challenge and look forward to getting my K1100LT on the road.Surprised--o:

Thanks Inge. An easy trap to fall into on this site.

Diveshadow, you might want to take a look at www.realoem.com for parts diagrams. Just enter the last 7 digits of your VIN to find all the parts information for your model.

When you are dealing with the K1100LT and looking to buy parts online there was quite a marked change right there where you are playing ECU Battery location and ABS all changed with the introduction of the new 1994 model at the end of 1993. Your 1996 is for most things the same as 1994 models.

One good suggestion is to put the model and VIN of your bike in the signature line so that you don't have to tell everybody with each post Unless if like me you own 1/2 a dozen of the things
