A casualty almost before I start: Rod inserted to separate parts for clarity.

I'm obviously a lot stronger than Bob (RT). Just grabbed the rack to push the bike around.
Trickiest question: Do I use the MIG or the oxy to weld it back together. (The stick welder is out of the frame for this one.)

The only changes made so far.

The rack will go back on when I've welded and painted it.

I have followed that bike before.
I would use a mig.

I would put a sleeve inside and weld onto that as well. Just a butt weld will not hold for long. Use a MIG and if it has been powder coated then well ventilated area because one sniff and you will feel dizzy and two your liable to be out cold for a few seconds.

Rick, I think that theoretically, if I was a good enough welder a sleeve wouldn't be necessary.

The reality is that I'm OK but not that good, so a sleeve will definitely be inserted. Smile

It has been powder coated, so outdoors it will be. The gentle breezes that Goulburn is renowned for, and careful placement of myself in relation to said zephyrs and the work should see me safe. Thanks for the 'heads up'.

Well Bill, sad to see that happen. I can't explain it and wish it had happened to me before you took control.
Was it this bike's center stand that broke?

I've already explained it - my superior strength. Laughing

I did consider a warranty claim, Wink

but seem to remember the receipt said "with all faults, if any".
No complaints or recriminations.
If I buy something that has had a fault deliberately concealed, I would be upset, but no such thing has happened here. Plus I have the choice of 3 welders at home for fixing.

Broken centre stand was the other bike.

G'day Bill, was talking to a mate of mine about the welding issue and he stated that he would use Oxy (bronze manganese rods) rather than MIG. He thought it would be a stronger weld with a sleeve insert. This bloke is a welding Guru from way back. Just a thought. Cheers Tom
