The fairing on my K100RS has been bent over on Haloween by some gits.
I have cleaned it up and superglued it and its ok for now, but needs to be done properly, but, in the mean time, I found a fairing on the bay that is in great condition, and so I have grabbed that instead.

Now...

My fairing currently on the BMW, has small stock indicators, and the mirrors are simply going through a hole in the fairing.
This has caused a small issue in that vibrations have made the hole bigger very quickly, and so, I have now moved them to the handlebars!

The fairing that I have bought, has a mount that is clearly for both mirror AND intergrated indicator.

I have a sneaky that the fairing is NOT compatible, but I am not in a position to find out just yet ( Im in hospital, and it arrived and I myself have yet to lay my eyes on it )

I do know that its a 1984 K100RS fairing, and that is what my bike is too! - are there any differences in various models?

Am I ok to swap the fairings over, or shall I just sell this off now knowing that its not going to fit?

I have tried looking for the indictor / Mirrors but the prices are just disgusting, and I am not going to pay the asking prices, and so I will end up doing a custom job and using the money I save, to insure the thing for another year instead.

What have you lot done when itcomes to alternative mirror/ indicator options?

Thanks, Damion.

That doesn't sound correct. The RS models came with indicators integrated in the mirror pods. Maybe a previous owner has made some modifications? Have you got a photo?

Yes I thought that too!

Ok well, I have just come out of hospital, the new fairing is up in my attic out the way, and the trike is at my mates house, so direct pics are not possible at this time.

However, i do have some pics of the trike anyway plus i got pics of the fairing from the sale, so I can have a look to see about showing any differences etc...

I will plonk some pics up shortly ok?

Google K100RS photos/images and you will see what I mean about the mirror pods on the bikes.

I have seen yes, they look much bigger than mine seem to be?

Anyway, I have dug out 4 pics... I have tried to get them to show as much as I can, but...

Well lets just have a look shall we? - I hope these work???

There is also a post titled ADDITIONAL MIRRORS ON A K100RS and those are the mirrors that I need to get clearly.

As you see on the purple fairing however, there is only an indicator on there, and a mirror is an aftermarket thing that has vibrated so badly, that it has ripped through the hole, and on both sides, it started to flap and ocne that started, the hole just expanded and the mirrors came out within a few miles.

They are currently in the handlebars right now, but they do knock the fairing and so its not good enough... I need to put them back into the fairing.

If you look on the purple one, there is a small crack, about level with the top of the light...

Well at this moment, that crack got well and truly opened up and the fairing is broken - hence buying the blue one.

I have done a great job at a quick repair and if need be, and the blue one turns out to be incompatible, at least I will have the purple one off the trike in order to do it properly I suppose, but the blue colour is a lot better looking than the purple.

Anyway, the mirrors on that blue one - I want to source a pair that go onto that obviously dont I?

The mirrors and indicators on the purple bike are completely non standard. Also if the mirror fouls the fairing your bike will fail the UK MOT.

The blue fairing has the correct fittings just waiting for mirror pods to be attached. I see no reason why it would not fit your bike, unless there have been other mods to the purple bike that we have yet to discover.

I understand the comment on the price of the mirror pods. Once knocked off (easy done) they will shatter, which is why so many of us have them tied on internally in one way or another. This habit of making a leap for freedom is why even secondhand ones are not cheap (£54 each from Motorworks). They do occasionally come up for reasonable prices on ebay - I recently grabbed a scruffy pair for spares for £19. Mostly though, ebay seems to be in the £40-£60 range for a pair.

I'm pretty sure I recognise the blue fairing. It might be worth PM'ing jase_ypk to see if he still has the mirrors for sale.

Hello!
The shiny mirrors are great looking, eve so I prefer the original look.
If anybody is looking for the original mirrors her is a link:
It's from a German motorcycle part dealer

Yes, I have of course asked about the original mirrors, and no, they sold off earlier.

The mirrors were simply stuff through a drilled hole and without big washers, and only the nut holding it in, then its only a matter of time before it was going to do this.

What I have here, are a set of massive washers with 10.5mm holes and the plan being to use these to better support the mirrors in teh same hole as they were in.

The only snag being that the hole is far too close to the edge, and the indicator so the washers are going to interfere with the indicator, and they are going to come out further than the fairing, so I will have to cut the washersto make it a bit tidier... This is of course IF I am to use the Purple fairing.

The Blue fairing can of course be redone differently.

What I wil most likely do, is keep everything there, as you can see, its ready to take the proper mirror/indicators, and so I will make some kind of plate, that will let me mount aftermarket mirrors, and indicators, without any need for any extra drilling or cutting etc

As I said before, I have not actually hadt he fairing in my hands yet, but going by pictures of that, and other pics I have found, it wont be THAT difficult to make something up, and use the mount parts that are there already.

AH, a link? - Thanks I will have a peek at that now!

Sounds good, easy and practical is the best way :-)
Let us see the result!

I would put the mirrors back to the handlebars, while you steer the will move with you. And the hole is already there.

Cheers espresso

They are on the bars at the moment, however, when I turn the bars, they knock the fairing, and not just a little either.
I am also widening, and raising the bars, this may help, but I actually prefer the mirrors on the fairing anyway.
But yes, as you say... The easiest way is the best... As long as its done nicely though... It needs to look a half decent job doesnt it.
I will of course upload pics, but right now, I am more concentrating on getting my leg working again.

First things first, make your leg working again!
Am I wrong, aren't the mirrors meant to be on the handlebars, if you use the original mirrors?!
How ever, all the best.

We see what comes.
